I am using a MTN sim card in my Sony vaio laptop with a Sony Ericsson vdc egprs modem, and can connect -intermittently - but it is sooo slow.
Would this be the network or my modem?
Does anyone know if I should get edge here? I am in Tokai Villas, near the main road in Tokai, Cape Town.

Do you use MTN? I tested my speed at gam and the max was 37.0 kbps - slow dialup speed. What do you get?

I am in the north in Parow , b4 connecting my data card says GPRS , then after 20 seconds it says 3G and only after it connects does it say HSDPA and sometimes goes back to 3G and so on.

Average speeds of 50k ...

Get a VC pre-paid sim and load 500MB for R189 and you will most likely be sorted. Or skip the bundle for now just in case MTN is faster...

Switching from 3G to HSDPA and back is normal. It seems when you're actually downloading it switches to HSDPA and when the connection is idle is switches back to 3G.

My speed varies on MTN every day. Sometimes I get at most 300kb/s and sometimes I get 800kb/s. I never get more than 1mbit/s with my Data Card.

On my N95 I get more but not always.:D
