why do you guys insist on going to buy from a store instead of just going to a dairy? its better for the environment because you reuse your bottle's (buckets in our case)

The SA corporates would be charged with racketeering if it was some other first world countries.

they should yes but its the man in the street that suffers the most.

what should happen is that every product from these companies should have a recommended selling price on their labels until such time as deemed viable, but we know that will never happen.

Cos a drive to the local dairy for me is 50km one way. That means an extra R100 worth of fuel wastage - increased carbon footprint. Its better for the environment if big tankers bring the milk to the store.

I see in die Burger the is a news snippet saying Carte Blanche will make "shocking" revelations regarding the high food prices. May be a worth a look.

There is nothing "shocking" about it. Market forces are working well here, as long as SA consumers demand these products, producers will keep increasing prices. If or when SA consumers have had enough, complained about the prices or simply started buying substitute goods, until then prices will keep rising.

My view is that these seemingly ridiculous price increases (and I refer specifically to ones like boramk's sandwich) are as a result of three possible reasons :

1. The store owners/managers not being on the ball and losing sight of the gradual increases that have been happening from their suppliers on an ongoing basis and then realising and having to play catch up

2. These same owners/managers in fact just getting the mark up and pricing wrong in the first place

3. The product selling well and then greed setting in and them wanting to make a quick buck. Losing sight of the fact that it may be better to sell 10 at R10 rather than 3 at R15!

Well what you have recorded will probably be a lot more interesting anyway! :) Besides it will no doubt be shown numerous times on "viewers choice"

Can someone upload the Carte Blanche video, or update us on what it was about?

Damn good idea, I've seen this in a few countries and the last place I saw it was Korea.

In the big supermarkets you'll pay a little less than the RRP, and at the local all night convenience store you pay the RRP, but never more.
