Similar has happened to me, it happens. Brain on autopilot,

I think the bullshit of using stuff before paying for it should really stop though.

It's not yours until you've paid for it, no matter what you think is right or wrong about the behaviour.

Quoted for posterity. People need to stop being gomgat. Wait till you've paid for the goods before consuming it.

The fact that she paid for her other stuff should have been enough to give her the benefit of the doubt, they were just overzealous.

I have large signs at the entrance of the store stating that you are not allowed to eat or drink any products in the store....

This is a major headache for retailers...

Sad that one needs to have these type of signs up nowadays. Once visited a restaurant where there was a big sign stating that people in pyjamas are not allowed in the restaurant. I **** you not.

I will not eat and walk. How do you enjoy something like a Cheese roll while walking?

In 40 deg heat I'm drinking something while shopping. NOT going to stand in a hour long queue just to pay for a cooldrink and then turn around and go back into the shop to do it again with the rest of my groceries. #NotHappening!! I pay for it when I leave. Don't like it, make sure there is a genuinely quick till I can use otherwise tough!

I've seen a couple open a food item for their baby. Baby didn't like the taste and the mother casually returned it to the shelf.

I can rant on forever about this...

About three times a week, my staff will bring me (1) Empty Cooldrink cans (2) Empty Juices (3) discarded polony wrappers (4) Half eaten Russian from Fast Food (5) Empty boxes of various HABA items... (5) Empty sweet packets

Small town, we jump onto one of my 123 CCTV camera's find the people and in most cases, it is parents allowing their little kids to scoff the items to keep them quiet whilst they shop..... then when the kid is finished they just chuck the leftover onto a shelf or floor....

Even with the signs on the floor, they still do this and "offer" to pay once caught out....

This is sooooooo frustrating.......

My biggest fear is my over zealous Security manager confronts the customer on the floor when he is having a bad day, he tends to speak before he thinks....

I have customers that are always testing out deodorant on the shelf also......

I understand it, people are just unable to delay gratification.

I would bet it was her reaction to it. I have the opinion that if you touch any of the open food like the bread rolls, you buy it.

90% of shops are air conditioned.
Take a bottle of water with you if you really can't do shopping without a drink.

There are these things called water bottles. You can fill one up and take it into the shop if you desperately need water.

Unfortunately that happens as well. We can do with a little bit of decency on both sides. This one was just over the top in my opinion, It would have been easier and more pleasant to ask for the R4 and get it done with. The last thing I want to see as a shopper is a mother or anyone else screaming in the shop while been manhandled for something like this, If you respect your shoppers you would handle such things better.

There is a difference between consuming stuff in the store on a "trial" basis, and downing it because you really need it.
I drink cooldrinks in the store and pay for them at the till, often asking them to ring up the empty bottle and throw it away for me, especially when the service sucks and the queue is long and the heat is insufferable because they've turned off the aircon to swell their turnover (saving money at the expense of customers)

The bolded part. Unfortunately that flew out the window a long time ago.

I have never ever in a million years come across a store that does that... at least not where I shop...

Keeping the aircon on when its very hot actually brings in MORE customers and generates MORE turnover.
