The government was warned about the July 2021 riots months in advance. They didn’t listen. Daily Maverick spoke to several sources with ties to the State Security Agency, Police Crime Intelligence, the military and the Hawks. All spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of their positions. They predict a terrifying scenario: a repeat insurrection, likely driven by the pro-Zuma RET faction and marked by guerilla-style sabotage. The aim: to keep Jacob Zuma — and his allies implicated in the State Capture inquiry — out of jail.

I think we'd all known that the government had been warned and warned... but its horrendous to see it pretty much confirmed.

Just another marker to show that the ANC has failed completely and is only focused on itself and the country is pretty much irrelevant to them unless it can pay them money or power.

I did not know about the container of AKs being stolen and millions of AK rounds.

This is genuinely frightening.

Totally. I wonder what will happen in August when Zuma's Arms Deal starts again...

Not just the comms equipment, the camping gear, the ammo...

It all points to a plan...

A recent mall robbery last week was committed with handguns and ak47s. The criminals here are well armed, handguns don't really cut it anymore although private security and some police prove the exception who actually work on their skill.

The rounds of ammo I knew about, the AK's are a surprise to me... and 2 containers of them is decidedly not a small amount.

But as @Kosmik says, the criminals here are well armed. They don't roll with 9mms anymore unless its the small time crooks.

Wholesale destruction would be my guess.

The fsckers can at least let me have my few days off this year in July please.... last year I was on leave during the unrest (which was both a blessing and curse all rolled into one)

They'll probably now wait to see who are the rogues who get manacled in September if the NPA make good on their promise to arrest the architects of state capture. The Zuma trial will probably see further delays and that is unlikely to send him to jail anytime soon. The HSF appeal is a bigger risk than the corruption trial.

There's also the chance that CR gets removed if he gets charged over Phala Phala. The intention there is to obviously have him step aside and be ineligible at the coming ANC conference.

Scariest part is that nothing has changed since last July. They know that when they act as hordes, nobody is willing to stop them. They can undo years and years of progress and development, in a day.

all it takes is a spark, and a wildfire the likes we haven't seen before will erupt.
maybe it will go all the way to a full on coup, that remains to be seen.

Government is too kak scared to do anything...T
They are all nice and safe..surrounded by armed guards...and they will deal with this once it starts up again...
Which it never will...not on Bheki's watch...He will make everyone write out lines and stay for detention...
