I reckon he deserves another shot to prove himself. Those weather conditions were tough, especially for a noob. If you bench him now and he has to play against NZ or Aus he'd come out of it even worse.

Yeh, true. Fark knows what HM is smoking with some of the selections, oh well, he's the springbok coach and we're not...

What bugs me most about HM, it's that he could have grown a young team with exciting rugby for the RWC and he didn't. I would have loved it if he gave more opportunities to some of the youngsters.

Yep. When he came in i was hoping for big positive changes, and he went and did the complete opposite of what I expected.

Marcell plays like a beast ...... gets punted to bench in favor of the untested has-been. You go HM

Yup, Marcell must be thinking WTF, he never puts a foot wrong!!!
Juan is an incredible player in his own right and after his injury deserves a shot as well, I just would have expected him to maybe start on the bench and get the last 20 as test.

To be fair, if he'd done that and they did what Pollard did on the weekend he'd also be criticised. Practically impossible to make everyone happy.

Peyper admitted Test blunders

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen on Thursday said referee Jaco Peyper admitted a series of blunders during last week's record-denying Test draw with Australia - but added it was no excuse for his team's poor performance.

Coach Steve Hansen, who sought a meeting with the South African whistleblower after the 12-12 draw in Sydney, said Peyper "put his hand up" and confessed he was wrong with one yellow card and several free kicks.

But Hansen said the All Blacks also had an off-day as they were halted one short of a record 18th straight Test win by the fired-up Wallabies.

"I know why we didn't perform at the weekend. There were certain areas of our game we were very poor at," Hanson said, as he announced three changes to his starting line up for the return Test in Auckland on Saturday.

But as much as the All Blacks were outplayed, Hansen said the refereeing did not help.

"We've spoken to the referee about the scrummaging. He put his hand up, said he got the free-kicks wrong," he said.

"The first yellow card (against prop Wyatt Crockett) was wrong - the ball was out.

"It was a good conversation, I respect the man for his honesty. He's no different than players. Some days you have a bad day. He had a bad day at the office and put his hand up.

"But I've got to emphasise, it wasn't just his problem. We had a hell of a bad day ourselves so we'll forget about him and concentrate on what we can do."

Hansen said he would meet with French referee Romaine Poite, who is handling Saturday's match, before kick-off on Saturday.

The All Blacks have made two injury-enforced changes, with Liam Messam and Ryan Crotty coming in for Jerome Kaino and Ma'a Nonu, while Conrad Smith returns to outside centre after missing the first Test due to the birth of his son.

Teams:

New Zealand

15 Ben Smith, 14 Cory Jane, 13 Conrad Smith, 12 Ryan Crotty, 11 Julian Savea, 10 Aaron Cruden, 9 Aaron Smith, 8 Kieran Reid, 7 Richie McCaw (captain), 6 Liam Messam, 5 Sam Whitelock, 4 Brodie Retallick, 3 Owen Franks, 2 Dane Coles, 1 Wyatt Crockett.

Substitutes: 16 Keven Mealamu, 17 Ben Franks, 18 Charlie Faumuina, 19 Steven Luatua, 20 Sam Cane, 21 TJ Perenara, 22 Beauden Barrett, 23 Malakai Fekitoa

Australia
15 Israel Folau, 14 Pat McCabe, 13 Adam Ashley-Cooper, 12 Matt Toomua, 11 Rob Horne, 10 Kurtley Beale, 9 Nic White, 8 Wycliff Palu, 7 Michael Hooper (captain), 6 Scott Fardy, 5 Rob Simmons, 4 Sam Carter, 3 Sekope Kepu, 2 Nathan Charles, 1 James Slipper

Substitutes: 16 James Hanson, 17 Pek Cowan, 18 Ben Alexander, 19 Will Skelton, 20 Scott Higginbotham, 21 Nick Phipps, 22 Bernard Foley, 23 Tevita Kuridrani

I feel the same. HM has made some seriously questionable selections as of late which has me very concerned.

To be completely honest I have very little interest in watching any further Bok games until HM grows some balls and drops Jannie Du Plessis (who has been sub-par for a while now) and especially Ruan Pienaar. The oke is a kark slow behind the ruck and just kicks most of our possession away. No flair or creativity whatsoever with the ball in-hand. A huge liability as far as I'm concerned. Why HM can't see this I have no idea.

Benching Marcell in favour of Smith is also a bit of a d00s move and a bit of a slap in the face to Marcell tbh. As some have said, why couldn't HM start Smith off the bench?!

That is what kinda happened to a White. But the nett result was a pretty trophy! He was also criticised for trying players, but it worked and I believe it is a good model to work on

Maybe he wants to see how Smith performs against fresh opposition - it is the best way to gauge albeit it against the Pumas. If he finds him sub-par, he can bring Coetzee on after 10 mins. If he played him after say 60 mins and he doesn't perform, he is out of options to replace him.

Having said that - I don't think Smith will disappoint.
