Castration would end the problem of rape, says King Zwelithini

Speaking in Zulu, the king said maybe it would be better if once a man was found to have raped, he should be handed to “men like us” to cut off his manhood.

“This would end this thing (rape),” said the king, adding that “this should be done in a way that would show the world that the Zulu nation does not tolerate this shame.”

Attempts to get the king’s spokesperson, Prince Thulani Zulu, to clarify the statement failed as he did not answer his phone.
Among those at the event were former IFP leader Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala and a number of provincial cabinet members. Zwelithini said it was disturbing that South Africa had highest rate of rape in the world.

He is right. It should happen. Once castrated, that person will never rape again. In addition, the fear of castration will play a significant role in preventing instances of rape. I do not, however, agree with castration being done by normal individuals. A chemical castration in a hospital by a registered doctor after conviction would be the way to go.

Oh hell no. Both physical and chemical.

Do you have any evidence to back up your opinion that castration would play a significant role in preventing rape?

Great idea, what does el wizo kingo recon we do to those suspected of stealing?

Cut off their right hand perhaps? We'll be a country of mostly left-handed people.

And corrupt African leaders, what do we cut off from them?

Most of the rapists are not convicted, or even reported. So I don't really see how it will help.

And I don't trust the legal system.
The judgment continues that Buthelezi alleged that the police and the prosecutor, Ms Peramal, "were privy to all of the statements forming part of the police docket at the bail application".

"They were aware that a fellow teacher at the school, Ms Mkhize, whom the learner alleges witnessed the incident (or part thereof) in the classroom, had deposed to a statement indicating that she saw no such thing.

"Despite the exculpatory nature of the statement, its contents were not placed before the court at the bail application. As a result, the plaintiff alleges that the police failed to investigate the matter properly and that the prosecutor (and the police) failed in their public law duty to disclose evidence in their possession at the bail hearing, with the effect that the court was misled, resulting in the plaintiff being refused bail,'' it reads.

Judge Chetty continued that "...it had been [the] intention of the investigating officer from the outset to oppose bail and he was instrumental in withholding vital evidence from the court".

It would definitely have an effect, Testosterone is largely responsible for the sex drive of males. This is why we cut the balls off animals to make them better behaved.

The only way this wouldn't have any effect is if you subscribe to the retarded fememarxist idea that rape is actually about power, not sex.

I approve. Especially for clear cut cases where it isn't just he said she said or it was semi consentsual but not that great for the woman.

Only for cases where the guy is caught in the act, and a DNA test confirms. You can't apply it after the fact where it is only her word against his.

It would impact the occurrence of serial rape yes... I am not 100% sold on it impacting the prevalence of rape in general, unless our big issue is serial rapists in this country which i don't think it entirely is.

Why on earth do people think that cutting of the penis will stop rape which is an act of anger, frustration and violence and not sex! Rapists deprived of the traditional weapon of choice - the penis - just rape with other objects at hand instead.

Accounts from both offenders and victims of what occurs during a rape suggest that issues of power, anger, and sexuality are important in understanding the rapist's behavior. All three issues seem to operate in every rape, but the proportion varies and one issue seems to dominate in each instance. The authors ranked accounts from 133 offenders and 92 victims for the dominant issue and found that the offenses could be categorized as power rape (sexuality used primarily to express power) or anger rape (use of sexuality to express anger). There were no rapes in which sex was the dominant issue; sexuality was always in the service of other, nonsexual needs.

Cutting off a penis will just lead men brutally taking out their anger on women in future, murder and torture come to mind.

Rape is often not about the act but about power.

Castration (chemical and physical) would prevent the rapist from inserting his member into the victim but that would not prevent him from using other objects.
For someone to abuse another human being there is something seriously mentally wrong with the perpetrator.

They simply are not safe to be left to freely walk among the rest of civilization and should be locked up for life with no possibility of parole/etc.

@maumau & @Mila beat me to it!
