I think your legal background is making you miss the bigger picture all the time.
No one is under the impression that this would be a friendly, "legal" divorce. Especially since their law doesn't even make provision for such an event.

Rather just proclaim the Catalan Republic instead of trying to give it an appearance of legality which is only a masquerade.

I wonder if the City padres & madres get the irony that their own secession lends legitimacy to the Catalan secession. If they can secede from Catalonia, then why cannot Catalonia secede from Spain. Obversely, if Catalan secession is invalid, then so is theirs.

Talk about cutting off the branch you're sitting on.

I have no idea what you are on about.

If they secede from Catalan and join Spain , and the Catalan secession goes forward, they remain as part of Spain. If the Catalan secession is declared invalid, then they remain with Spain anyway....so they don't care if their secession is invalidated.
