"I struggled then, in order for you all to struggle now" - Bheki Cele
Therein lies the problem, his struggle credentials are like a trump card, can't beat it, even if you suck at your job and are getting a Zero on all your KPI's.

He was within an inch of calling the guy a racist, but he wasn't going to play 2 Trump cards in one game..

So we're all safe now from crime?

Cele said he struggled and fought for human rights. We can all sleep a bit better now.
The perfect response to Cele after his outburst would've been "Will your struggle stories save the 67 people that'll be murdered today? Will they save the women who'll get GBV'd or raped today? NO, it won't. So ****ing stop it."

No, within the SA Railways its not a "Tribal Leader"...

It would be the equivalent of a Senior Team Lead/ Department Head from what I can gather, so he would have had the vast majority of a yard/compound reporting to him.

The mines, railways and other large employers had an Induna. He was the representative of all the tribal labour on the mine and was responsible to mine management for the resolution of complaints and conveying the feeling of the work force to management.

Every Sunday, as a small kid, I used to visit Shadrack, the Induna on the mine my father worked on with my father. I was allowed to wander around while Shadrack and my father spoke of anything either thought important. My father and Shadrack would then walk around the living quarters together and check cleanliness, state of repair and chat to the workers. The kitchens were also inspected.

So a Labour Relations Liaison and Residence Manager effectively then?

Many are taking Ian's side on Twitter (to my surprise actually). The usual race-baiters are getting dunked on in the comments.

It seems like Ian said stuff that truly resonated with all SAns.
Even Thuli's tweet has seen surprising comments.

Action Society wants probe into Cele's conduct
Lobby group Action Society has approached police watchdog Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) to probe the conduct of Police Minister Bheki Cele and members of the police following a heated public outburst at a community safety event in Gugulethu, Cape Town on Tuesday.
During the heated exchange between Cele and the director for community safety, Ian Cameron, police members forcibly removed Cameron from the meeting venue.
"We will lodge a third complaint with the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) to investigate the misconduct by the members of the SAPS when they forcefully removed me from the meeting," Cameron said.
Cameron added that he was wrongfully deprived of his "right to liberty and bodily integrity".

Gonna be fun to see this unfold.

Recognised by the tribal labour as such and as their representative. Long before unions and it seems to have worked far better than a union. Also the disciplinarian that sorted out problems before they got to management level.
