The amended Firearms Control Act of 2000 cannot allow individuals to own more than one firearm, Police Minister Bheki Cele has said.
As was predicted

He said it would be wonderful to have a country where individuals were not issued with firearms and that, among other issues, the ministry was fighting for weapons not to be issued to individuals.

He added although no shops were manufacturing AK47s in the country, the weapons are still being used by criminals, especially those who commit cash-in-transit (CIT) robberies.
Not R4/R5s.

I would love a country where the cops actually did their work, protected citizens so that we could walk next to a lake in the dark at midnight, feeling safe and secure. Unfortunately I had to go to Switzerland to experience that the last time.

Here we are not even safe in our own homes at 14h00 in the afternoon (as our neighbour found out last week) behind security fences, and steel gates. We have to organize ourself into units. Luckily we did that, else three "honorable" gentlemen would have probably taken out a family. They were looking for the dad who was at the back when the kid screamed and the neighbours rushed in.

Fix that first - then we can talk.

I often wonder what the exact distance is, that these uppity-bodyguarded-bluelightconvoyed-securitydetailed-everimportant politician government scum are removed from the experience of the average joe south african. Because first we have Mkhize telling us about our wonderfully successful SOE's and not to worry about NHI, and now this numpty.
What planet are these idiots from?

In 2018, Constitutional Court Justice Johan Froneman ruled that owning a firearm was not a fundamental right, but a privilege regulated by law under the Firearms Control Act,
I don't wish harm on anyone, but maybe this idiot needs a wake up call and have his house broken into and have his family tied up at the mercy of violent thugs.

Well this will open up an industry fitting paintball guns with ball bearing or something similar.

Let me recommend a modified Tippmann 98 paintball gun. The criminal will laugh as you pull it out and die as you fire the first 1000 metal slugs.

It will not be classified as a gun that requires a license yet it will effectively shred through skin for self defense at home.

Oh and it would cost way less than a legal gun.

Well there is the problem, pr1cks and cadres from the anc are using most of the SAPS for self protection, escorts etc.

Have these politicians ever been asked why they would rather disarm society instead of the army and saps seeing as most ammo and firearms used in criminal activity is firearms that belonged to them?

Shthole politicians who should rather shut up and sit in a jungle somewhere.

It would also be wonderful to have a country without any thieving politicians that doesn't give a rats ass about it's citizens. It would also be nice if they start fixing all the SOE's that they broke and to start acting on the complete lawlessness that seems to be the norm these days.

Furthermore, the SAPS is short of cash, short of ammunition, too few members (needs to be 2x as big just to equal the world's average), poorly trained and undisciplined. Now #LiveWithIt

didnt the Nazis try this sh*t with people?
restrict firearms to the army and not to private citizens for self defense.

so one could say its the beginning of a dictatorship, thats trying to make sure nobody can challenge their rule?

If I remember correct, it was along the lines of handguns banned but pretty much everything else was allowed, unless you were Jewish of course. This from what I remember in class though, which was years ago, would have to check up on it and too lazy to do so on my phone. :p

thats what worries me, I know were not like the US with 2nd amendment and mass shootings every other week.

but people should be allowed firearms to defend themselves with without restrictions

He said not allowing individuals to own more than one weapon would also assist with inspections and police would be able to track firearms efficiently
The police can't even track their own firearms efficiently.
