He had three bodyguards with him at PnP a few months ago.
When he had his bitch fit, it was mentioned that he had like 15 parking spaces blocked off (will have to find the video). Maybe it's his bodyguards own protection unit too...

Holy crap. I thought this was for the entire SAPS but it's just for the ministry of Police

Edit: nvm I'm being dumb. Its for the entire SAPS

This is the scary thing. R1.58bn on accommodation across the country for the whole SAPS. One would think they would be working their asses off with so many cops traveling across the country. One would not expect to see this type of crime we are experiencing.

On the other hand, neither the ministry, nor the police or the DA have mentioned if this was accommodation for work or holidays. I suspect it must be the latter, as crime are totally out of control and not reflective of a police force spending R1.58bn on accommodation for cops working.

Perhaps the funds are used to house the poor without the public knowing? Who knows....

Nonetheless....

R1.58bn on accommodation with 183,000 cops, would mean that each cop in the service could have gotten about R8600 for travelling either for work, but more likely for holiday.

I think there should be an investigation into each and every traveling claim submitted by all police officers and Cele and his department. Also, each claim should be verified accounts the bank account from which payments were made. Also, ensure that each claim and officer claiming are legit.

I suspect fraud and corruption here.

And I think it's over 3 years isn't it? So that's like R2900 per year per copper.

Not much, assuming it's all above board.

Even at R2900 per cop, you need to remember that around 50% of the police, which are uniformed police officers will never need accommodation in other areas, as they are fixed to specific areas they work in. Another 20% will never travel, as they are administrative personnel who work in an office inside a police station or regional office. As for detectives, you are lucky if you get to travel to other provinces 1 or 2 times a year. Most of the times, if you need affidavits or conduct investigations, you are required to use the detective units in the other area. So, you may want to rethink that statement again....

There can be nothing above board with that amount of money spent on accommodation and it needs to be investigated.

What pi$$ me the most off is that every year the budget for visible policing gets reduced and the budget for VIP protection gets increased. Even Malema have SAP protection, every Tom Dick and Harry in the ANC have a body guard.

At local level the Community Police Forum (CPF) is supposed to keep the police accountable to the community. However, this is impossible for the following reasons:

CPF Membership. The CPF is voted in by the community. The government they vote for is indicative of their critical thinking ability. This means populists and pastors get voted in who have little clerical ability and also see the CPF as a good entry on their CV. I have literally seen a garden boy voted in as chairman of a CPF. He had no computer, no smartphone, no math nor stat ability.

The only way to circumvent this would be for community members to apply for CPF positions with a CV and being vetted and cleared.

The CPF is supposed to hold the police to account but has absolutely no right to read the occurrence book nor to scrutinise accounts. Case files and dockets are completely out of bounds. The police are also reluctant to share info with the CPF. The CPF is not entitled to know the costs of keeping vehicles in service nor what is done to them.

The only stats the CPF are given are the crime stats for the month. This is supposed to be used to decide on plans of action for programs within the community. But with a garden boy incapable of prioritising crime stats as and giving strategic direction as chairman, this becomes impossible.

The police also close ranks when one of their members is under scrutiny by the CPF and no information is forthcoming.

Unless SA starts sorting out their CPF's and getting competent people onto them, the police stations will remain places where all sorts of doings can be hidden and accountability will remain impossible.
