Looking at Cell C in the new year i got to ask. Do you really have that big customer base? Who decided this new pricing and marketing strategy? The idea is to attract customers not to propel them or did I miss that class in business economics?

Oh forgot you have that Cell C works in most stolen phones advantage though

Remember the reward offering Recharge with R50 and receive 500 megs, CELL C actually ran at a loss to attract clientele to their network it worked but now that this promotion is over others are porting back to other networks. It's a yo-yo game you can port your number up and down.

Even tried to speak to the ex-marketing guru at CELL C he even said if he was still working there he would of tried his best to get something off the ground.

Lars seriously changed MOBILE BROADBAND landscape and now others are following suite like 8ta, vodacom over the festive season and CELL C are going back to the drawn board. They better come up with a lovely promotion to tailor for bandwidth/data hungry folks. Data is where the money is,I rarely make any calls anymore cos internet is a real distraction and you've email at your fingertips :)

Please CELL C Rep tell your bosses at CELL C to come up with another promotion - money upfront helps build a network :)

I think Cell-C will be focusing on smart phone market. It would be impossibe without HSPA+. Data hungry users go elsewere for better deals, more network capacity is available to the premium users. Why do they wait? They want Vodacom and MTN to follow them, 8ta, now Neotel. Marketing tactics. They made a first move, now they can wait and see what happens.

IMHO - best solution for now is to buy 8-ta 2+1 for coverage testing and if it work - to buy 60+60.
I moved (promo is finished!) from Cell-C to 8-ta. Houghton. Speed is rock stable 6.2M down and 2.4 up. I suspect some type of trothling as speed is really rock stable. With Cell-C i had top speed around 13M, average 7-9. Same modem - 1820.
8-ta coverage is not great - i have another SIM in my smartphone (fortunately 2 SIM phone!) and data is very offen down when i am driving. Not comletely, but slow 2G.

This is not good news. My 2+2GB Vodacom deal expires in two months and vodacom is the only one in my area that has 3G. The others are all EGDE or GPRS. :-(

I tried 8ta but where I am they roam on MTN network and their fantastic specials don't work.
Its like being in the red district in amsterdam with the beauties so close but seperated by a simple piece of glass.
You can look at the posters and adds, but cannot experience it. Too bad.

MTN / Cell C / 8ta - know this: I'm sick and tired of Vodacom and their buggy software and signal that goes down every time it rains, and so are most other people in town, but you all don't have the guts to help us. If you would, vodacom can just as well pack up their little tower and leave.
But if you do, you better give us 3G.

man i agree, vodacom is terrible
i sent them mails 2 weeks ago regarding connection issues - no one has even bothered to reply. I had problems with Cell C at the same time as well - Cell C have fixed up everything in a jiffy.

This is correct, they roam to MTN by default. And by default your prepaid SIM can not use 8ta network at all, only MTN. The only way to access 8ta network is to convert SIM to non-roaming. Then you can test coverage.

HI

If not mistaken almost the same type of agreement as us, 8ta only will get edge on MTN,
And data will be limited.

Actually they got it right. It is full 3G roaming. There were no reports that 8ta roaming MTN were slower than mative MTN SIM. And 8ta data bundle are significatly cheaper than MTN - 500MB R120 as compared R189 from MTN.

How they figured it out and what is a reason, I am still wondering. If not mistaken, contract 8ta SIM can use both MTN and 8ta network. But prepaid 8ta SIM by default can only use MTN network, there are excluded from 8ta network and they can only buy standard data bundle, no GoBig special.

When prepaid SIM card is converted to non-roaming, it connects to 8ta network and GoBig specials appear on the USSD menu. Only GoBig packages bundled with SIM are already converted to non-roaming.

Many people are confused, thinking if they buy 8ta SIM card, they can use 8ta network, this is not true. And what a negative effect, They want to test 8ta coverage, see only MTN, learning that there is no 8ta coverage in this area, some SIMs ending in garbage bin!

Tested and confirmed this yesterday. No throttling when roaming on MTN.
I don't understand how they are undercutting MTN while using their infrastructure.

The only possible answer is that they are getting benefits from Telkom agrements with MTN. If MTN keeps quiet, perhaps a new anti-monopoly case is on the way.

I saw in a Game flyer today they are selling the 24 GB speed sticks at R1349 and the 60 GB speed sticks at R2799.

Hi RichardG, I buy it immediately. Cell C works well where I stay. Had 60GB card for a year, expired last month. Been looking for exactly this. How can I get the card and pay you? Please call me at ***-***-****. Oliver.

Mod note: Telephone number removed, please use PM.

I don't think it has to be that direct. To mtn, they might have spare capacity and any money is good money for them to recoup investment. Besides their prices are exorbitant so there is room to be cheaper. It is likely it has something to do with the network partnership but I don't think it can't just be making money out of something you have.

A colleague of mine bought a 60GB package at the old price from Matrix Warehouse at the end of Jan, but could not RICA the sim card on 1 Feb. Turns out the card has been cancelled by the network. The only option was a refund.
