I think the reason roaming on Vodacom appears to be slow is because the latency is practically doubled:

That is quite interesting, if I get some time I am going to do some comparative tests on this to measure how much. Worst is latency has more of an effect on the slower EDGE link as well:(

Going to play around with my phone settings and APN, on the iphone contract but running a Sony Xperia - wonder if they can see this somehow.

simple you don't want them to roam then improve your network, this could force them to fix their network faster

This in spite of having an in building antenna directly above my desk!
And you have to sit there 8 hours a day. I'll move as far away from that thing as possible. It's like sitting with your head inside a microwave oven.:erm:
