I just came back from Cell C's Centurion Mall branch where I waited just about three hours in an attempt to activate my contract. Apparently their system was down or something similar.
Trying to sort it out with their HO telephonically also proved futile. The lady he was speaking to had some issue with my 2 month old payslip. This after waiting 30 minutes for them to actually get the faxes that were sent through. Yes, faxes. More than one. Apparently their fax machine is broken. It's laughable that a company the size of Cell C cannot afford to maintain their office equipment.

At the point where I almost passed out from anger and frustration - I was bottling all of it up in an attempt to be reasonable - the guy helping me finally suggested that I could just leave my documentation with them and they could let me know when I can pick up the handset. I told him I wasn't prepared to accept that.

It left a bad taste in my mouth and I honestly don't think I want to sign up with them anymore. I'll be sharing my experiences with everyone I know, especially considering the manager basically just shrugged it off saying there was nothing they could do, which is nonsense in itself.

That is not as bad, we waited almost 4 days for Game in Centurion mall to activate my wife's contract. Their system was down too... And yeah its standard for them to want the latest payslip.

I was in my third year of varsity when I took a vacation job at an engineering company.
Mid-December I was asked to send a fax quick. Now, I know what a fax machine is. I know roughly how it functions. But I'd never actually had to use one before.
I figured it couldn't be too complicated, and tried to figure it out myself.

30 minutes later I gave up and asked someone... "older" to show me how to operate the machine.

Never again. Email FTW.

So true. My wife had to wait two days.

However, what frustrated me the most was that the sales assistants at Westgate made people wait for them with the customer they were serving, not serving other customers and only notified customers of the long waiting periods only if and when the customers who had been waiting to be served (myself for almost 20minutes) asked what the problem was.

Which means if I had waited for them to serve the customer they were serving from morning, I would have had to wait there the whole day and the next day too.

Information about how service is, is important and the sales assistants seem not to understand this.

Tell people what the problem is up front.

I signed up with Vodacom (through GAME Somerset West Mall) on Saturday. All in all it took about 25 minutes with no problems. The account was activated and the handset is working nicely. No problems like yours. Who in his right mind would leave personal documents in the hands of strangers in our country at this stage ??? LOL for Cell C, see for yourself.
