On Monday, 2nd July 2012, I went to Cell C Fourways Mall to open a Company contract for a new employee and believing that this would be a relatively ‘painless’ procedure due to their recent extensive radio and TV advertising.
I chose the Straight Up 800 with Top Up for a six month contract for a sim card only and duly handed over ALL my Confidential Company information which is required by Cell C. I was told I would have the sim card within three days.

On Thursday 5th July (four days later) I still had not heard from Cell C so phoned and they confirmed that they had not received a reply from Cell C Head Office regarding my application.

Today, Saturday 7th July, my local Cell C phoned me to tell me that they had still not received a reply from Head Office regarding my application. He Claims all of his emails to head office go unanswered , He did apologise and explained that they are controlled by their Head Office. I told him that I would be there immediately to collect all my Confidential documents because I could not accept such pathetic customer service.

However, my main concern is that all my Confidential documents (3 months Bank statements, Utility bill, Company registration & Vat documents, copy of my ID) has now been faxed and circulated through the Cell C Head Office and landed up with who knows where for anybody to get their hands on. This exposes me and my company to a highly vulnerable position for which I would like Cell C to answer to.

I usually cover up (not a suitable word :D) the amounts paid and only show them opening and closing balance + salary/income and watermarked (or with black marker) ID copies. I don't know if they will accept watermarked company letters though.

I did that with a loan 2 yrs back, blacked out everything condifential and told them take or leave it - they took it. I also now need to send Vodacom a copy of my ID book (which ironic nobody has a right to make or keep in South Africa) and in the process I will watermark the copy with a date.
