I thought there was a porting fee for leaving your old and joining your new network, unless this has been scrapped. If it hasn't, what of this fee then?

Technically there is AFAIK..

But Cell-C and Virgin Mobile have opted to pay it themselves.. i.e., making it free to port to them..

Porting from Vodacom to Virgin Mobile cost me nothing .. but it cost me R100 to port from Virgin Mobile to MTN..

Calling all masochists. :D
Does anyone know what these so called uniquely special services might be that CellC claims to have that Vodacom and MTN allegedly don't have?

CellC has GPRS and EDGE, but so do Vodacom and MTN that also have HSDPA which CellC does not provide, one can also send SMSes and MMSes using CellC and Vodacom and MTN, one can make voice calls using all of them, except that video calls over 3G are only available using Vodacom and MTN.

AFAIK only CellC allows annoying people to send irritating "Please Call Me" SMSes to non-CellC numbers [Vodacom & MTN], so I guess that is one unique disservice that CellC offers...

"Please call me's" from any to any network have been possible for a while now. I've seen guys send their girlfriends (my friends) "Please call i.luv.u"s lmao. Cell C is just playing with their words cleverly. The sms porting is unique to them, that is clear. But by "unique services" they mean all their services which ARE unique to them technically, as they are not EXACTLY the same as those same services offered by the other networks. I could be wrong ...

I didn't pay any fees when I ported from Vodacom prepaid to MTN. Sim, connection and port was free.
