Cell C launches 21 Mbps HSPA+ in Bloemfontein today

Ran tests with Cell C's USB Data Dongle in Cape Town yesterday.

Test was run in Cape Town area and connected at 21Mbps.
Speedtest.net to Cape Town server showed 2.3Mbps Download & 0.89Mbps Upload.

Downloaded a test file from Microsoft.com at +-1Mbps, 22Meg file finished in 30 seconds.

Cell C's Data network is brilliant, it's like no other wireless data service I have ever seen.

Cape Town is most likely next in line after Bloemfontein.

I hope so!!! Then I can finally get rid of this extra internet line and use this as back-up. :D Ah this should be good!! I hope that 40mbps comes soon in CPTown!

Wow! 733KB/s! that's almost a Megabyte each and every second! - 600KBps is pretty much the MAX I can get from MTN, which is pretty damn quick
do you have a rapidshare account to test with that? or perhaps graboid (even a demo account) - any one of those two will max out your connection - one quick test will simply not do!

do it!

I never knew about graboid downloaded it today. downloading one movie at 1170kB/s. one movie in about 11mins

gimme a shout if you are looking for a way to bypass their 4GB trial - there is a way!

with your speeds, i'm guessing you can start playing any DVD Quality movie in around +- 40 seconds flat?

spot on around 35 seconds, the trail is only giving my 2000mb, how do i get around it. Is it worth paying the 5 dollar subscription.

Wow! That's a lot! Whole cap within 1+ hour!

Thats the max speed though, worst speeds of about 200kB/s, you right five gigs is going to be nothing, hope they start launching bigger packages later on.

These are Megabytes per second you are talking about?

edit: did the calc on the file you downloaded - 22MB in 30s = 750kB/s which is roughly 0.73MB/s and about 6Mbps.

It is important you get your use of MB/s and Mbps right in this instance

When doing speed test always do the JHB servers first ,cellc's internet equipment sits in JHB.

hopefully dbns next.
are these same speeds reached in pe n now bloem with a cellc sim and older dongles?
or only with these new dongles?

not sure what the post you quoted had to do with this. however i would suggest that you should do a speedtest to a site/location that is likely not to be optimised for your particular ISP as that is most likely to represent your true internet experience.

Any compared latencies between HSPA+ and 3.5G? I read is around 50% less.

No one in Bloem on the cellC gravy train yet?

I contacted them so that they can first test the signal strength at my premises before I sign up, but it takes +- 2 days for them to respond to my email...at first they wanted my cell C info, so I told them I'm not a customer yet...but haven't heard anything back since...

Clearly not the way to go on their behalf...
