Cell C launches StarCALL - Please Call Me lookalike service

Cell C has launched StarCALL, which gives customers with a zero balance the ability to ping a recipient to call them back.

This takes the form of a missed call on their phone, even though customers usually cannot execute a ring when they have no airtime or minutes available.

The recipient receives a missed call from the number that used the StarCALL service – even though their phone never rings.
This sounds like it could potentially be abused and become an irritation, I can also see call spammers using this on their Cell C victims.

There should be an opt out option somewhere on a USSD menu.

She would have to wait 2 months first, wouldn't she
Don't be so sure, she has already demonstrated that lockdown means nothing to her and that she believes she does not need to comply with the same laws as ordinary citizens.

Couldn't you just sent a please call me? So now you can ping your friend who probably also doesn't have airtime

One reason not to return calls. It is a problem anyway with companies. Quite a few have numbers one can't back and with others one ends up at the switch board and noone has a clue whoe would have called.

This is total rubbish from Cellc
I've been struggling couple of days to make calls.Only on calling the call center do I find out about this.
Before if you had a zero balance then you would be told sorry load airtime
Now you have to check your balance every time before making a call.
Oh and once you load airtime you have to type in a code to get you off it.
According to customer service there is a limit every month, once you have reached that limit then you automatically get put on starcall.
Utter garbage, Cellc has just lost another loyal customer, not that it matters to them
