I see the new prices on the website:

Sim only
3 GB valid for 12 months - R399, R749 with 7.2Mbs stick
12GB (1Gb per month for 12 months) - R1499, R1999 with 7.2Mbs stick
24GB (2GB per month for 12 months) - R1999 (old price R999), R2999 with 21.6Mbs stick
60GB (5Gb per month for 12 months) - R4499 (old price R1999)

How bad is it that the new prices more than doubled!

I still want to know why the data usage is more with the same content on a faster connection? Do we get charged for the pings to get the device to stay on Hspda which means of that amount of data we buy 70 percent of it is actual data we use the rest is to keep the connection which equals rip off.

I don't see why this is such a big deal. Cell C launched their data offerings with 2 promotions - for both postpaid and prepaid 'contracts'. When this promo ended, they increased prices to be more in line with the industry standards here in SA. They're still around 15% cheaper on all postpaid contracts, and they're the only operator who offers consumers a choice of 4 prepaid 'contract-like' offers - which are still relatively cheap even though the prices have doubled since the promotion. Even though they're still cheaper, they're rolling out coverage all over the place and beefing up on network reliability and speeds. In my opinion, they've become the premium mobile broadband provider in SA, and the fact that they're cheaper than MTN and Vodacom is a bonus. 8ta is still busy with their acquisition drive, and their MD has clearly stated that their promo's will end this year. If you're price sensitive to the max, then go with 8ta. If you want premium service at the best price, then go with Cell C. If you want to be raped, then you know what your choices are :D

And just remember, they will ALWAYS be promos - so for those of us who want the most bang for our buck, we should quietly stock up on the existing Cell C promo offers still available, and then wait until they launch newer promo's until we buy again.

This.

By all means, go to 8ta if you want to, but their promo will also be ending soon.

I'll stay with CellC for now.

My one speedstick expires at the end of this month.
With these new prices I WON'T be exploring renewal with Cell C.
The same goes for the other stick which expires Feb 2012.

Time to move on to greener digital pastures.

I would like to know from the cell c rep if I can get the deals on a micro sim. If I can I will gladly take a 24GB contract.

Good day Dineshg

You can get the data sim and just do a sim swap.
That is possible.
