Cell C sux bigtime! I keep an emergency phone on my bike and yesterday when I needed it I discovered my service had been 'lost'. There is still R30 airtime on it and I last used it about two weeks ago. Pathetic service from an equally pathetic company...

Cell C airtime expires in a month... I think. they did that because they offered free mxit and facebook on prepaid so it was a way to ensure customers buy airtime every month. But with the new data rates I don't see why this practice should continue

Well, they have lost a customer anyway. The airtime should still be valid as the phone was used about two weeks ago and still shows a balance of R29 something. Otherwise its just plain and simple theft!

Just Unwind, my friend ! I bet you can still reactivate the same number and get the prepaid balance back, by talking nicely to their call centre on 147, or 084147, when calling from another network. Found that the Cell C call centre and even more surprisingly the 8ta one is really working. They are really trying, that's what proper competition is all about. To speak to a person you have to straight push option 9 or 0, not 100% sure.

When you react too emotionally to one incident of bad service like that, you will be changing providers, businesses too quickly. Give them a chance to improve.

I've had that happen to me, about 2 years go. I hadn't used a prepaid sim for some months. When I put it my phone it still showed service, but I couldn't call. I recharged with R10 and 2 days later my service was lost.

Well, 147 does not give me any options to speak to a human, I tried 140 and got the usual 'high call volumes' etc,...

The problem is I needed to use a phone and it was not available, what if it had been a proper emergency and I needed to call for help? There was no call or SMS to let me know the SIM was 'lost' . I charge the phone twice a week and would have seen this.

Really not cool that when you needed to use your phone in an emergency it did not work. I agree, you should receive some notice indicating the line is being dropped from the network.

That said, did you know you should be able to dial the emergency number 112 even without a sim card?

Sorry, it's indeed 140. 147 has only pre recorded info. Keep on trying !

More news! Since yesterday the Cell C 140 number has been 'experiencing high call volumes'...So I can't get through to anyone.
I have sent an email to them as per the address on the message on 140. Still nothing, will try their facebook page.
Poor service....
