I am frequently being dropped off the network without being aware of it. No phone calls or sms coming in and when I send no connection is made. Speaking to MTN their suggestion is that when traffic gets heavy their servers do not cope and the only thing that I can do is to turn off for 5-10 minutes while they refresh my number on the network. I have already lost business because people phone and it goes to voicemail or else nowhere and I am unaware of the network failure. On occasions days go by without getting messages and then get old ones with new. How many others are experiencing similar problems?? It now seems to be happening to an associate who uses Cell C. What is going on. If this is the problem are the network providers doing anything about it. Does anyone have better info/ideas or am I one of a few who has this problem?

Sounds a bit odd. I find it difficult to believe that a company like MTN would openly say that their servers are not coping.

I've had similar issues before, and all those times it's been my phone at fault.

Have you tried a different phone?

Also, what's your reception like? Are you in a highly populated area?

Try another phone or do a SIM swop as suggested.

I had this exact problem some years ago with a brand new Nokia 6606 or something....missing urgent calls and SMS from the office.
Googled the problem and found that the new phone needed a firmware update which I got MTN to perform!:erm:

It can be in result of poor SIM contact. Clean contacts with pensil eraser.

Its not the SIM.
There is an issue with the network... All my phones cannot connect any data, nor can the prepaid SIMs in machines.
MTN suffered some kind of meltdown late yesterday afternoon.
