If someone continues to harrass you via sms, how do you block their number from sending sms's or calls to you number.
Must not only block their number but also send them an sms saying that they've been barred from communication with my number.

Some tele-marketing companies have automatic-diallers known as "predictive diallers". The machine dials your number and when you answer it is supposed to connect you to a telesales agent within 1 second. If there is no agent to connect you to it drops the call or you hear nothing ('white noise').

The system is supposed to be clever enough to predict agent availability but sometimes gets it wrong. e.g. It would make 15 calls knowing that 10 agents are available because it would predict that of the 15 only 10 would be answered but if 12 are answered then it is short 2 agents so 2 calls get dropped and dialled again later. If the system is not setup correctly it could also dial after hours and have no agents on duty to connect to.

i think there is a law that says you cant have less agents available than calls made but am not sure.

I am currently having the same problem. The last time it happened, was the Standard Bank call centre a few years ago. I am due for a replacement card this month and I am wondering whether this could tie in. You perhaps also due for a new card from them?

the best way is to contact ur service provider and let them attend to the issue, im sure if the can divert bussiness calls from normal landlines then they will be able to block numbers aswell.

If you have a SE phone you can block certain numbers, but if they then phone with a private number it will still come through.

Not bouncing the thread. Genuine question.

My wife is getting unwanted SMS's from someone. It's from a cell number. I actually thought about doing the above. What kind of trouble do you think I'm getting myself into? I've just been telling her not to respond to them (she doesn't) but the person has not stopped for about 3 months now.1 or 2 SMS's per week asking explicit questions.

i have the same problem, some indigenous dude calling me at all times in the night, i asked vodacom for help and the told me they cant block no's. Crazy, they can transfer data wirelessly at 1.8mb a sec, but they cant block a no.

Upside down world we live in.

I'm gonna have to use the vodacom4me method. :)

I used to get Please call me messages at any hour of the day. It got to a point where I just had enough. I phoned 111 (Vodacom), and told them the situation, and gave them the cellnumber of the person sending the messages. Vodacom sent them a message indicating that they must stop sending Please call me messages, as they (Vodacom) has advised me to open a case of harassment should it continue. I got a reference number from Vodacom in case I want to open a case of harassment ... never had a problem after that
