This weekend I finally had enough of the quality of calls using CellC to Zambia. I immediately dialled the same number from a Telkom line, and lo and behold, the quality was perfect. So whilst I always assumed that it was the Zambian side responsible for the poor quality, it was Cellc on the South African side.

Their call have all the trade marks of a bad VOIP call, the lag, one way traffic and poor quality. Except it was worse than any Skype call I have ever made. But knowing how useless their data network is, it is really no surprise that their VOIP is the worst in the world.

Now, I believe that Cellc should provide me with a proper connection, not their terrible VOIP system. I mean, VOIP costs a fraction of their rates for calls. This must be rated as theft!

Does the other providers use VOIP to Zambia?

You should try their voicemail. I have to replay calls 5 times and I still have no idea what was said. They are using a heavy compression ratio that's for sure.
