I got my E90 yestoday, and bought insurance for it,never bought insurance for my phone before, but E90 is too expensive, and 2 of my friends' has been stolen, this make me deside to have insurance.
The guy told me I must use the one SIM card only,if the phone been stolen, and if they find out I was using another SIM card, they will not pay. But how do they know I was using another SIM?

It can be picke up on the network. And yes, if you use another sim in your phone then it wont be insured. But this is only if you use the cellphone network's insurance. My cellphones are insured with Outsurance and I can use any sim card from any network in it.

Hi Piesang, how much do you pay Outsurance to insure your N95?
I pay R101 p/m for my E90 with MTN, it is very expensive. I will call my insrance company to find out if they want to insure my cellphone. I am with Auto & General.

Gov Tax = 14% ... Crime Tax = 30%

Taking an E90 on a ProCall 120 costing in the region of R300/month one has to add another R100/month Crime Tax. Crime pays ... and it pays better than most in SA. Some industries wouldn't survive without crime (and the higher it is the better).

Why do people take out cellphone insurance from a cellphone-operator? . Go to an insurance firm and insure it properly. Trust me it's NOT cheaper via Vodacom/MTN/[cellphone people] and their contracts are full of crap catch-22 clauses. I would avoid them on principle.

I will call my insrance company to find out if they want to insure my cellphone. I am with Auto & General.

If they insure your laptop then they will insure cellphones. Usually it's just an "add-on", like with any high valued item. I'm with Outsurance , but i'm sure you'll get similar situation with A&G. A R10k phone will probably be R100 insurance, but you can always "inform" A&G what you pay at MTN...most companies will [should] try to beat it.

Besides make sure that MTN insurance covers things like "accidental damage" type of stuff too. I bumped into a table with my Jasjar and cracked the screen, R2500 damage...insurance paid it all...i'm not so sure MTN/Voda insurance would have covered that?

I am going to call Auto & General tomorrow.
The thing is I have already took the insrance from MTN, is it too late to cancel it?

I've not heard of being locked into an "insurance contract". Just like you can cancel your A&G insurance probably with a month notice, you should be able to cancel MTN insurance. So not sure, i believe it is just an additional "service" on top of your contract [like subscribing to SMS bundles] , so should be able to cancel it without hassles at any given time ...if not, then another reason to not go with them.

Example:
At my current insurance firm, i insured Phone 1 . Two months later, i sold the phone, i phoned insurance firm and told them this...they -immediately- removed it from my insurance......

That's expensive,I am paying just R101p/m for my E90 insured at R8000. I think I will stay with MTN for now.But anyway, I'm going to call Auto & General for a quote for my E90 tomorrw
