Cellphone theft can put victims at risk of having their identity stolen

Reactive cybersecurity: Panicking and callling the bank\other service providers to block your app

Proactive cybersecurity: Having an updated and fully patched phone, encryted contents, with a strong lock code to unlock it. Same with peoples sims, PINS have dissapeared!!! Set it! (remember the old days of PINS and PUKS?)

By being proactive there is no need to rush and put out the fire by scrambing to call people and block things. You will sleep peacefully knowing the thieves have a brick of useless hardware.

“You must report the theft to the police not only so that your phone can be identified and returned if it’s recovered but also so that the service provider can blacklist the phone with the IMEI number, making it harder for thieves to resell,” it explained.

How many people just throw away the box that the phone comes with and have absolutely no idea what their IMEI number is?

Every sim iv received in the last decade is set as 0000 (= to no pin)

Remember the Nokia 3310 days, the phone didn't have lock code but you needed a sim pin on switch on

So with no sim pin, its easy for a thief to receive OTPs and reset MFA despite the phone itself being locked

This 100%. If you don't set a pin on your sim then you're screwed.
