what model is it?

I'v got an amilo and there's a little button next to the power button to turn on wireless.

If that's on, just make sure you're wireless network adapter is enabled in Network Connections

there is only three places it can be.
1) in the bios of the laptop (early centrino models tended to have a wlan on/off bios setting)
2) a physical switch/button on the chassis as mentioned by ngage55
3) a setting withinthe wlan card's driver (as it is centrino, it would be using the intel pro wireless card...look for an entry called Intel ProSet or similar, and click around till you find it)

On my laptop, Siemens, I use bottom left corner, "second function key" + the top left button with a "wireless" icon together and the light would come on.
