They should make SMS backup op in only as sim swap fraud is still a huge problem.

Call me old fashioned, I still like these old hardware-based units. Much less likely to be hacked than a modern PC or smartphone. Malware isn't an issue etc. etc. And tell the banks I would be more than happy to pay for this myself to get the added security.

Glad to see FNB finally doing this. It's so much better than the deluge of OTP messages from both SMS and the app. And I like that it requires my fingerprint.

No thanks. Those tokens are expensive and yet another thing you have to carry plus it's easier for mitm attacks.

question for you guys, if you have notifications turned off,
can you miss the OTP? or does the FNB spyware turn it back on automatically?

sometimes you dont actually see the prompt,
sometimes you forget to turn on Data, and miss it.

but my question is, if you turn off notifications,
even if your data is off, will you miss it?
Yes unless you are hooked up to Starlink.

How can you miss it? Surely you're expecting it?

its possible, especially if you dont expect to receive it,
or your doing something else and get the prompt behind something else like a Skype video call.

I mean the FNB app isnt asking to draw over other objects.

A custom-made HW device vs an application that lives on a generic smartphone that is also used to browse the cesspool that is the Internet? I would consider the HW option to be much more secure; yes it would be expensive but worth it

Just curious, why do you turn data off in the first place? Small data bundle?

I see people on whatsapp groups do that and then there has been a power failure for 3 hours already and then suddenly they come on the group "anyone else's power off?".

yip, almost dont buy data,
even though FNB is free, still get hammered by all the jacka$$es that upload movies on Whascr@p.

and have missed a few times the OTP, sometimes dont see it.

Reject the Skype video call or don't initialism one until you have completed you online shopping payment transaction.

You do know you can set whatsapp to not download such things when not on wifi?

whatsapp > settings > storage and data > choose what type of files, if any, you want or not want to auto-download when on mobile data.

Those videos will only download and play if you then click on the download icon on the video, or if you are on wifi.
