I don't think we should even use domestic workers.. isn't that from a bygone era? It's not that hard to put your own clothes in a washing machine, load the dish washer, we have robot vacuums and lawn mowers now, do we really need another human to do these tasks. If you have kids, then make them do the work lol. Sundays can be the day you do the chores around the house and garden. If you just clean up after yourself, and do 1hr of cleaning a day, it's manageable. Let's be honest, domestic workers in SA is a thing because it's affordable, but it's not really necessary and it's not that common in other countries. It's an informal work sector that shouldn't really exist, so Ramaphosa should rather create new employment opportunities,

The ANC cannot afford domestic workers having jobs and earning minimum wage. This will make them independend and this will cause the ANC to lose votes.

The ANC knows full well this will cause people to let domestic workers go and not employing them anymore. This allows the ANC to get those people dependend on them and a R350 grant.
Yoh.

Is this the actual reason??

The reason I employ people is precisely so that I can spend less time on chores and more time on more important things.

You have a job for the same precisely reason.

Your request are contradictory.

How else do you think a Socialist government works?

Just take a look at what is happening in America. You will be surprised to see who it resembles 1994 and up in South Africa.

As anyone who employs staff. Would you do that work for the wage that you pay them?
No, they can pay developed world salaries, but then you can double or triple the unemployment rate as the only reason we have domestics is because it is so affordable. Same reason we have car guards, petrol attendants, gardeners and other cheap labour not really needed.

It's position that is easily disposable. Let that sink in a bit.

Pay first world salaries for an unskilled position and Sleep better at night knowing one person is looked after and 10 000 in it's place dying of hunger.

But then again, logic and truth has never earned one any votes. At least 1 person will sleep better at night, just like the VIP politicians.

Erm, no.

I know quite a few people here that still have cleaners that come in once a week and do all the "heavy" cleaning like mopping up, etc.

Minimum wage is an effective 1500 EUR a month, think the norm to pay is something like 30 EUR for two hours when chatting with older family.

Well... Now... the similarities are remarkable. The decline and division too. The governments identical.
Well... Look..... I am sure Biden.... even Orange Man will do better than this lot. For a little while at least. They probably have a retirement village here somewhere anyways..

You may or may not be right in principle, but remember many of these people rely on this work, they won't survive without it. I am all for investment in education so that not so many people are reliant on menial work.

He just regurgitates the same tripe all the time...accelerate the recovery of the economy; provide support most affected during the pandemic (whilst ignoring businesses that don't qualify based on a race criteria)...

He says things, the ANC/government do nothing. What happened to the R500 billion earmarked for recovery during and after Covid?

It was recovered and distributed amongst the cadres as usual.

I hire a 20 year old college girl to do cleaning, ironing and washing a few times per week. Other perks as well, part of the package she provides.

I have used a few and its been good.

I'm using Sweep South and its great, the ladies work hard to try and get regular business from you.

We use the same lady and just book her every week, if she can't make it they will replace on the day. Leave and UIF is sorted by the agency, if I want to change then I can just try another lady.
In the same way they are protected as well, there is no fight about money and getting fired on the spot. They can also choose when they want to work and if they have an issue with a customer they just don't take bookings with that customer again.

I think its a great model. Its going to professionalise the industry and I think it will work better for the ladies. They also have a job history with a real employment record.
Sweepsouth is a model of exploitation. The workers see about a quarter of what you pay.

It cannot be exploitation.... is it not a company owned by some daughter of some cadre?

I only use my domestic worker twice a month. She has some other jobs but rely on Sweepsouth for most of the month. Sometime she gets called in for a 3 hour job where she has to travel to, leaving the day ruined for doing any other work. She also says the pay is poor.
