Hi -

I currently buy a Mymeg 500 GPRS bundle.

I'd like to switch to less to say MyMeg 250

When I swith it on Vodacom4me.co.za it says first pick the 0 Meg Bundle.

Then when I do that, it says it will only be effective from the end of the month.

How do I switch it for this month? I don't want to waste my money on a bundle I won't end up using...

Thanks!

That's the problem with the whole vodacom bundle setup. Everything works in calendar months. ANYTHING you change will only be effective in the next month. So you can't do anything about it this month. Since it's the 1st, you are stuck with whatever you had loaded before, EVEN if you had nothing you wouldn't be able to load a bundle for this month now.

Basically on the website, you pick 0MB to cancel your current bundle, then load a 250MB bundle to add a new bundle. All this will only happen from the 1st Nov.

Also i do not have too much faith in the Vodacom4me's services website regarding bundle changing. Best to call the helpdesk and confirm with them that what you did is what will happen. [I've changed bundles on there, only to find the next month it didn't happen or bundle dissapeared or multiple bundles were loaded...and VC can't fix it in the current month either].

Anyway, try MTN prepaid, you can load a bundle whenever you like and the bundle will be valid for 30 days FROM THE DAY YOU REQUESTED IT <---makes massive difference for me.

I still say that Vodacom and MTN should just drop data bundles altogether and have one fixed affordable data price - follow Virgin Mobile's example and get rid of the billing and other complexities surrounding bundles!!!

So basically, I'm paying for something that I won't use completely and won't be able to carry over the bundle to the next month. I think that is a really great business practice.

Yeah, that's my other beef. I pay X amount for Y MBs each month. I don't always use my Y MBs. Why can't I carry them over like my airtime huh? I have, after all, PAID for them!!!

I would be very interesting to see the average amount of unused data that is "stolen" from customers each month.
/speculation on
It is probably included in the price setting equations.

Even the switching to 0 bundle doesn't work. I have done this before, and the next month everything is still exactly the same. Waste of time if you ask me., Luckily I am on the MyMeg 75, and rarely go over it ...

I always want to squeeze every last kilobyte that I've paid for out of my 500mb bundle and I end up going over cos of that daft Vodacom4me system. Costs me an extra R60ish a month:(

It would be so much better if the bundles did rollover. Do MTN and Virgin also have this wierd "no-rollover" mentality?

I can MAYBE understand it for prepaid users but contract users should just be able to use data at the same rate as the bundles and get billed for it at the end of the month like everything else.

*sigh!*

Virgin doesn't use bundles at all, you just go straight from Airtime at 50c p/MB. Since you can't loose your airtime, you basically have permanent rollover and no time period restrictions. Trouble is, Virgin do not offer 3G.

MTN however do not have rollover either, after 30 days you loose your bundle [or last i checked]. Advantage over Vodacom however is that you can have 2+ SIM cards and you load a bundle which you know you will use up in 30 days, when the bundle is used up you switch to the 2nd sim and load a bundle on that [which you can use up within 30 days] ....and repeat.

Although it turns out, MTNs 350MB bundle is indeed a "sweet spot" for me. With Vodacom's 500MB bundle i always lost at least 50-100MB OR went 50-100MB "out of bundle" when trying to use the full bundle [costing me R2 p/MB] .
