Democratic Alliance provincial spokesperson for transport Robin Carlisle said the taxi blockades and demonstrations have to be dealt with by the law firmly and urgently. "The public not only expects the police to disperse the taxis, but that arrests are made and taxis are impounded," he said.
"Both provincial and municipal officials have at last commenced with regulating the taxi industry. If they lose their nerve now, the industry will be out of control for years to come."

Mail and Guardian - Buses hijacked in W Cape taxi protest
I will tell you something about my own staff and the transport they use.
They hardly ever use The Taxi's, unless they have to. They prefer to use buses as they are safer and cheaper.
One of my African Ladies from The Eastern Cape was shot several years ago 3 times in the leg with an AK47 in a Taxi Shooting. She managed to scramble out of the Taxi that rolled and pulled herself into a canal on the side of the road and hid away. The Taxi Driver was killed with several others.
I am not sure how she managed to survive as the Dear Lord surely had a hand in her recovery as she came through and is capable of walking unaided. She is a good worker and for the 3 months she was in Hospital I sent her pay to her family so they could live. She put in a 3rd Party Claim, but is still waiting to hear and I doubt she will get any compensation?
She walks to work everyday, not only to save money, but also to avoid using Taxis.
She is at work today on time as she walked as usual to work. The other staff all arrived late.
