South African actress Charlize Theron recently spoke about growing up during apartheid in South Africa and how, as a white person, she benefited from the system.

She spoke about her white privilege during an onstage discussion about her philanthropy. She was speaking to her Gringo co-star, David Oyelowo at the annual fundraiser for Nigerian children’s educational and health program GEANCO, reports Variety.

"I obviously am a white person who benefited from my white privilege. I grew up during the apartheid era, I benefited from it. These children [today] were all born post-apartheid era. I feel like it’s my duty to not let them forget and to also let them know that there is [unity], that I am with them, that we are all standing together," she said.

You folks do realize she was speaking in the past tense right?

"South African actress Charlize Theron recently spoke about growing up during apartheid in South Africa and how, as a white person, she benefited from the system."

Essentially what she said is true. Unless people are of the opinion that in apartheid SA people classified as White did not have more privilege?

So confusing when people go against, and get all riled up about obvious facts. It's hilarious.

Personally, I can't stand the creature, but just because she said it doesn't make it untrue.

Out of interest...

Will your children and grandchildren also be privileged? Will it be wrong for them to be privileged? Considering, you are making a living and benefiting from a system where white people are being shunned by laws like AA and BEE from the economy due to the past. This is what I call benefiting from black privilege.

I am talking about white beneficiaries of old apartheid vs black beneficiaries from current apartheid. Is it wrong to have benefited from old apartheid based on skin colour and is it wrong to have benefited from new apartheid based on skin colour. So, did she admit to something relevant or something irrelevant?

I actually don't really care all that much. You seem to have quite an opinion on the subject and I don't.
I just pointed out that what she said was undeniably true.

It's really as simple as that. Feel free to debate facts all day though.

What makes movie stars think their opinions matter?
Their job is to pretend to be other people and entertain us....
They all sing the same tune , one could say they have the same masters and Agenda .
It is all about the next generation , they say and do things , because kids look up to them .

Its an interesting thought exercise.

Let's say that a white man hooks up with a black woman today. They have a child. That child then has children with a black person. The grandchildren then hook up with black people.

The white genes from the great grandfather will be all but invisible at this point, but the children will still be "privileged".
