South Africa was sitting on the some of the richest gold, diamond and platinum reserves the world had ever seen but apparently our success and wealth as a nation is all about Apartheid....

Apartheid wasn't needed, mining was already in production from 1867 with discovery on diamonds near orange river. SA is about 5th/6th now in gold production since my last read up

the probable truth? it wasn't strictly needed, but you need cheap labour to maximize profits, and what better way to have cheap labour than oppressing the masses?

go look at communist China or the heydays of the Soviet Union, massive achievement through cheap labour, and massive oppression to create and maintain cheap labour, apartheid was more of the same in a sense
