Took my car to a mechanic, they reckon they need to get the auto-electrician out, they warned me the cost involved may be the minimum of R1000, almost kakked myself. I know what the issue is with my car, I just can't reach the wiring myself and was hoping for a patch job. Anyone know somebody good that won't kill my bank account?

Ferruccio Auto
Cnr Olympia and 11th Street, Parkmore, Parkmore, Gauteng

Give them a call, describe your issue and see if they can help you? It's an Italian family-run garage and I've had nothing but excellent service from them.

Thanks, the guy explained to me that they'll need to take everything out and test it as it's not a straightforward problem, and if they have everything out they might as well fix it. i'll just have to budget :p

I've been to Ferrucia auto before, they're incredible people, but they also had to get the auto-elec out before and he also quoted me something crazy(think it was R10 000 at the time) whereas another garage did it for R1000, and it was far worse at that time

If I remember correctly, DNJ auto electricians. They were quite reasonable.

They can do repair work and auto electrical work.

radiator fan is not switching on, brand new radiator fan so i doubt it's that, i suspect it's the wiring as it already looks suspect

thanks :)

So easy to check. Could be earthing, thermostat, on board computer (beware many sharks claim this anyway)

What car?

If it's a VW golf, look at the terminals on the fan ... the cable vibrates loose from the connectors, but does not break off completely

Or it could be a blown fuse, happened to my old A3 (fuse popped, radiator fan wouldn't turn on).

What car?

Citroen C3 :D no thermostat on car, pretty much get a warning light telling you your engine is on fire. i'm thinking of doing a makeshift job myself just to get the fan running permanently, or installing a switch. I can't believe something so simple can cost a fortune, so i think if next few places give me crazy quotes, i'll grab tools from work and just fiddle myself

I also checked the fuses today, managed to trace which cable went where but to what the actual fuses do, i'll be damned. i think i'll just test the fan first before i play around

Whoops, meant no temperature gauge, like my other cars. Had a Camry which i could watch the temperature climb in the past and pull over, now all you have is a beep and smokibg coming out from the bonnet

Think you are right about the thermostat, i recognise it from my car and will try figure out how it works

Get a manual from the net and/or scan the net for C3 forums or info on temperature control. Most of the time the sensor can be tested in boiling water. Another thing is you must have the correct coolant in the car as water boils at 96 degrees in open air on the reef but the correct coolant can go much higher in temperature before it boils even under pressure. My volvo was overheating regularly and all I had to do is replace the water with the correct coolant. A blown head gasket can also lead to overheating.
