Look in SA we are being milked for broadband. A lot of ISPs are making money where they wouldn't be able to in overseas markets. While its all good for consumers to have cheaper broadband, its not good for ISPs and those whose business models depend upon payment per gig.

There is an attitude in SA that people with money (those who know how to make some) should be RELIEVED of as much of this money by companies and state run monopolies as feasible. SA has a lot of have-nots but a few havs, its these havs are the constant target of monopolies (be they Telkom or
even hardware importation firms or local municipalities which charge you huge rates based on the value of your property) in order to milk these few people as much as possible because obviously they know how to make money but they don't know how to spend it. This BS attitude is prevelent not only in
broadband (high per GB charges, shaping) but in other business - wherever you see local prices way above international ones. Another cute example,
malls charging you to pay for parking even though they know that without that parking you wouldn't visit them and their mall wouldn't be able to exist.
As there is no competition and businesses practice unethically - this is so common that they constantly get away it it.
