What would the cheapest way of resurfacing a driveway be?

Tarring a cheap method?
I've heard about compacting the bricks and no cement needed inbetween?
I guess there is loose stone a well?

Is it steep ?

Premix is about the cheapest, you can use paving blocks and just put river/plaster sand between the bricks, you don't need cement although if you do use cement you don't need much mixed in with the sand anyway so it doesn't add a lot to the total cost.

You can use loose stone but if your driveway is steep it will keep moving around.

hi,

No - straight and quite long. I think around 100sqm

Premix is similar to the compacting?

Premix is tar.

If it is long and straight you can put down a layer of G5 material. It is like a mixture of different size stone. From pretty much dust up to about a 19mm size. Mix in about 5% cement to the total volume and then roll it.

It will last probably a year as the rain and traffic will eventually loosen it up, but then you just re-work the damaged sections every year or 2, but the good thing about it is if you decide to premix at a later stage that will act as your base under the premix or paving blocks.

If you use loose stone all one size if you ever do decide to premix or pave the loose stone will be no use and you will end up throwing it all away.

You can also use a normal "gravel" that's the stuff they generally use on rural gravel roads it is normally classified as a G6 or G7 at the quarries. You just spread it and then roll it with a small roller. Nothing difficult at all.

Could help you out more if you were in Dbn don't have any contacts up there that I can think of.

I'm in JHB - but just phoned.

Pricing isn't nearly as bad as I thought - R180sq for cobble half brick things and R240.00sq for standard brick. I haven't got the price for tar as yet - but apparantley cheaper than R180sq

Should be between R80 - R100/m² all depends on how far you live from the Quarry and the Premix plant as transport will vary depending on distance.
