Cheapest smartphones for Google Pay in South Africa — all under R4,000

There are numerous smartphones in South Africa under R4,000 that feature near-field communications (NFC) technology for using Google Pay.

One of the often-overlooked features of a smartphone, NFC, is a short-range wireless technology that enables contactless transmissions between devices.

The struggle is real. Currently looking for a phone that is 6 inches or smaller, has NFC, was made in 2020 or after, and is less than 4k. Plenty of phones meet the last three criteria, but you think I can find one that's less than 6 inches? Noooooo. All of them are basically bloody tablets!

I'm pretty sure the Nokia 3 sold locally also doesn't have NFC enabled.

Too bad the Redmi phones don't have NFC, only the more expensive Xiaomi phones. Maybe they will bless us with more options soon.

Guys someone with knowledge assist me if you install Google Wallet APK on your device and link Debit/Credit/Rewards cards on your profile then decide to uninstall the APK what happens when you install APK on different device can you retrieve linked cards information?

Yes it syncs with your Google account.

I'm on my fourth Redmi Note (5, 9, 9T and now 10 2022). All of them showed "Market/Region dependent" under NFC and all of them the Global version.

None of them have or had NFC!

The 5 I imported from AliExpress, I half expected a Chinese version, yet they sent the Global one.

My only conclusion is that Xiaomi, like Trump, thinks we are a schithole country who don't need NFC, not on the Redmi series at least.

China as well. People there pay mostly by QR code.

I have the Redmi Note 10 Pro it has NFC and works just fine with Google Pay. Got mine on Takealot last month.
