My new insurance requires a tracking device fitted to one of my cars.

What is the cheapest insurance approved company? (I don't want a contract)

(I also don't really want my car back if its stolen :D)

Go cheap and go nasty.

You don't want a system that is running your battery flat over the weekend because you didn't drive the car.

Best two companies are Netstar and Tracker, and both will give you similar options and prices - rental at under 100/month or outright purchase - whichever one suits you. :)

My insurance asked me if I had a tracking unit. I said no. I asked what the financial benefit of having one would be. They claimed I would save R50 per month. The cheapest units on the market cost about R90 - R100 per month. For the added rattles and hassles of a cheap and lousy tracking unit, I don't want it. Keep in mind that the unit has to be tested by the owner otherwise the insurance will not pay out. Personally I don't see the point.

Discovery Insure? You don't pay for the tracking device. Just saying but bit late now.

Contacted Tracertec, they came back almost immediately - they have an odd clause where you can only move the device between cars within the first two months - so I think that'd rule them out. I'm waiting for clarification.

CTrack haven't responded.

Just emailed Matrix.

Won't go with Tracker, they had lawyers after me when the insurance had a device fitted to my car and weren't paying. It took months to sort out, and the bloody lawyers wouldn't get the message, phoning me constantly, threatening to blacklist me, etc, etc.

Netstar next...

I pay R70 per month for Tracker Retrieve. I insure with Momentum Short Term Insurance. When getting insurance on new car, the consultant said I can get it for R70 because I insure with them.

Hi xrapidx, there are various options available to you for surprisingly good prices. Its not always the price that makes any difference. It doesn't mean that if you pay R400 per month that you will get better service than a company that charges R100 per month. I did some research after some dismal service from 2 of the big tracking companies on the market. Im not in the business of name and shame so ill refrain from that. The one refused to send medical assistance to a vehicle accident i had and as such left me lying next to the road in a tremendous amount of pain before our glorious ambulance services finally arrived and then refused to comment or acknowledge their "mistake". The other one had installed a device and the radio stopped working, i never received any paperwork or activation and as such am running for free!!! :wtf:

I found Self-Track and am in the process of putting all my personal and company vehicles onto their tracking system as it seems to be the best available according to me. No jokes, you can go look yourself. I'm in Edenvale and I'm using T.S.S. to install them for me. I hope you find what you're looking for.

Change insurers.

I honestly will not do business with a company that requires a tracking device (Personal choice)

Only reason I have a tracker is if, god forbid, my wife or kids are hijacked there will be some hope of tracing the car. Have tracker Skytrax. Never had any issues.
