Any suggestions on the cheapest way to get into the MAC World ???

Something basic that can at least run Snow Leopard :)

Used , surplus , throwing out ???

( Don't have R15,000 for a used 2008 MacBook ) :(

You can run OS X on a normal PC these days so that would be your cheapest option.

Thanks for the tips about "Hackintosh"

Looked at that already

Was looking for a "True-Blood" solution ;) :)

If I change my mind I'll let you know. my macbook is just gathering dust.

Like the real Aqualung

---------
Spitting out pieces of his broken luck.
sun streaking cold
Aqualung wanders lonely.
snatching his rattling last breaths

Taking time
the only way he knows.
Eyeing little girls with bad intent.
Watching as the frilly panties run.

Picking his MAC up
He goes down to MyBB
and warms his fingers.

Watching the MAC power up like
Winters foggy freeze
And the rattling last sounds
of screaming hard drive agonies

Aqualung my friend
don't start away uneasy
you poor old sod, you see, it's only mw.
-------------------

Why is it gathering dust ??? -- Too many computers

There is a Mac Mini here in the classifieds

Mac Mini

and this one here

LMAO :D minus the little girls part that's spot on.... Jethro Tull ;)

My iPhone has replaced my Macbook , I used my Mac like a netbook but my iPhone has replaced it.
Also the reason why I'd give it away for cheap is the the combo drive needs to be replaced and plastic has cracked off the palm rest(common crackbook problem)

I would probably sell it for R4000 but I might still find a use for it come snow.

Did you ask them to repair it?

Nope, doesn't bothered me that much, besides I voided my warranty trying to fix the combo drive using the ifixit tutorial, a guy on the apple forum told me to clean the lens using a tutorial but I think I voided the warranty.

The thing is that I had a lens cleaner CD disc that scratched the lens, now I don't trust those cd lens cleaner discs.

the cheapest is still Hackintosh, but there is a learning curve if you don't know how to install it, There's lots of guys who can help you out, including me. Other than that your best bet is a Macmini.

The cheapest way is to pick up a refurbished Mac Book in a foreign iStore or some other dealer (and yes dealers outside of iStores sell Macs abroad); while you're on a holiday or business trip OR have someone else do this for ya. I for example work with quite a few Americans and at least one guy has offered to buy me a MBP whenever he goes to the States - that's about 1-2 a year.

The second cheapest option is to get a Mac Book online here or abroad - they cost about R15,000 or just under and an equivalent PC will not be MUCH CHEAPER.

What's worked for me - buy a Powerbook with a smashed screen and just replace that yourself. Sell the now fixed PB and buy yourself a Macbook!

Coz the PB won't be able to run Snow Leopard (at all), while you can on even the slowest Macbook...

Or get a Dell Mini9...
