Hi,

I have a small home business and need to make a number of calls each month to landlines in Australia and the UK.

I have an uncapped fibre internet package with WebAfrica and would like to know the most cost effective option to call these countries from my PC/laptop using a mic and headphone.

I do not require things like call forward, or message boxes or answering services. It is highly unlikely that I will receive calls and all calls initiated from me will be done from the office.

Do I need a separate VOIP solution?
and if so, which providers have the most cost effective options for Australia and the UK?

Thanks.

I had a similar problem. I called the landlines once and politely asked for a TEAMS video call. I got a whatsapp video call number from most of the clients.

Is Skype still a thing? They used to include a bunch of free minutes with your Microsoft license.

I used Skype while outside of ZA.

I purchased local calls (ZA calls) which was very affordable

Look into their products. Might be cheapest to buy Australia and UK minutes

No one makes calls anymore, it is 2024. Just send Voice Notes back and forth on whatsapp, it is free
I rarely listen to voice notes....
I think it's far more impersonal than a text.
Rather make a real fully sync call whether video, voip, normal call, etc and have a proper conversation vs having to listen for 4 minutes to a one sided convo.

Those sayings just use WhatsApp etc - doesn’t work when you want to call a landline. Many people in the uk still use landlines. My in laws have one and pretty much the whole family there. They use them regularly

Been using zadarma for last 2 years to call from ZA to Portugal Vodafone via UK number.
It was difficult to get a Portugal number due to requirements for passport, id, residential, etc.
zadarma allow you to request (pay for) numbers in about 90 countries.

ZA Telkom/Freshphone to Portugal Vodafone is $$$

I use Axxess Voice, with my old ported Telkom geographic number, works well. I have been using it for at least 5 years now.

Their fees are on their site.

I tried to use Skype today and my ~$10 credit was gone, I wanted to transfer my credit to my mom. I see they did away with buying credit, you now have to buy subscription plans, that makes no sense for a few calls a year.

Edit: Got hold of skype support and they restored the credit.
