Checkers reimburses customer after R4,000 "missing" Money Market transaction

"But after her story sparked widespread outrage, Checkers contacted her and repaid her the money"

Why is it always the case that the situation gets resolved only after media attention brings the issue to light?

How many others have had similar experiences and have been fobbed, didn't know about the small claims court option, then simply gave up?

Glad she got her money back

Yup I called it + substantiated my case:

Are the checkers staff even FICA compliant,
Surely this raises other issues.

Big businesses are lowlifes like that, they were hoping she would disappear, I admire her courage for following up.

Initial decisions are normally made at a lower level, with a team leader or branch manager (whose KPIs include loss prevention) making the calls. The brand reputation is probably not one of their KPIs.

Widespread attention starts affecting brand reputation and brings it to the attention of more senior leadership, who step in to prevent brand harm. The amount of negative attention that Checkers has received is probably worth at least a hundred times more expensive than the initial R4k and if this matter had gone to senior marketing people upfront they'd have insisted on a quick reimbursement.

This isn't really a good/proper resolution. Yes, she got her money back and that's great for her, but it doesn't really sound like they got to the bottom of anything or really 'solved' the issue, checkers just panicked from media attention and gave this lady R4k. Maybe there's some underlying issue in the way these transactions are handled and the next person is just going lose money.

It clearly isn't, and how hard can it be to investigate properly and come up with a reasonable explanation? First her money was withdrawn in Brits, then it was withdrawn in Tzaneen, but all of a sudden they give her the money back without any explanation, they are hiding something.

F... Checkers. Already added them to my list: DisChem, Clicks, Spur, Woolies, TreSemme....
