And not a Citi.

I personally am looking at getting my wife the new Fiesta around R 150k new. If I had to buy a second hand car I would most prob buy her a Renault Clio in in R 70k range. Renault Clio's are light on fuel and very nippy. Only downside is the price on spares

Have a look at second hand stuff for that price, you will have a happier and "living" gf for much longer...unless you are trying to deliberately bump her off for Insurance!!

I know they're not exactly mainstream locally but me'd be looking for a FIAT Panda.

Good choice! I had a Panda 4x4 that I did over 50 000 trouble free kms in. Lovely little car.
