Quite interesting to see adults all quickly jump to blame the kid, when it is the designer's responsibility to install safety features such as a light curtain around the perimeter which prevents the robot from operating when hands are on the table.

To not have this safety feature around a powerful piece of machinery is actually ludicrous.

I would say a mechanical solution is better. There is a reason why electrical equipment uses simple things like fuses instead of electronic detection.

The robot's only function is to move chess pieces. All the mechanical actuators should have torque limiters set to as low as the design requirements allow. In this case, moving chess pieces weighing a few grams would pretty much be a few percent above the minimum required torque to move the robot itself.

his been real shy (skaars) of late @ShaunSA in the banter department -- being way too political or searching couches...

I think he finally got the reaming of his dreams, but is now having post-surgery issues after trying to get the anal-leaking fixed.
