Your wife wouldn't perhaps be a teacher at a primary school/daycare in the northern suburbs?

Seems there's a bit of a chicken pox "outbreak" there; colleague's child went to school yesterday, healthy as can be, this morning both their kids had chicken pox.

No, but we work and live in northern suburbs, and on the farm there is a daycare sort of thing so maybe it came through there.

But the good news is I called my mom and she says I have had chickenpox, and have a minor scar to prove it, phew. How the heck dont I know these things, I'm almost 30!

Havent had measles yet though, so maybe I should first find out for sure what the heck my niece has got

Glad you recovered!

2 weeks of pure agony.
it was not fun. I was also walking around the house with a bottle of ethanol alcohol and spraying everything I touched or went near whenever I was forced to get up (you know, toilet or dehydration, food was next to impossible).

Because its apparently much worse as an adult and I dont recall having it as a child

I get a variant of it sometimes. I had a few spots on my belly line a few years ago. Prob about 10 years ago, and then about 4 years ago on my shoulder. Called "Gordel roos" or something. Just about 6 blisters and damn they hurt like hell. No idea what causes it. Dr's say stress

You can get it as early as 4 years old. We don't retain much of our memories of anything prior to the age of 10.

Actually wait, pretty sure I got the measles shots as a kid... probably why I've never had it then :p

Yep, I had it as a child and as an adult.

Child? itchy.
Adult? isolation in emergency ward followed by tons of medication, near death experiences, spots in your throat making swallowing almost impossible, hallucinations, dizziness, nausea (goes well with the throat spots) and extended sick leave.

As an adult I was "quarantined" at home by my doctor. The first few days I spent in the shower and bath, just to rid myself of the itch. Booked off for 2 weeks. My boss came to see me after a few days and didn't recognise me when I opened the door...it was horrific...

Not nice at all! Had it once as a kid, twice as an adult. Extremely unpleasant :(

I had it when I was 6. So what makes it worse as an adult?

It's more dangerous for an adult, plus the itching was so bad (EVERYWHERE - YES THERE AND THERE!), I drank painkillers and sleeping tablets to get relief.

Yest, it is dangerous if you get it as a adult. Not sure why. Think it can also cause infertelity in adult men if you get it as a adult.

no no no

mumps can cause you to never making babies...

but then again, not something you are likely to do.
