China to spend $1.4-trillion to challenge US technology dominance

Beijing is accelerating its bid for global leadership in key technologies, planning to pump more than a trillion dollars into the economy through the rollout of everything from wireless networks to artificial intelligence.

In the masterplan backed by President Xi Jinping himself, China will invest an estimated $1.4 trillion over six years to 2025, calling on urban governments and private tech giants like Huawei Technologies Co. to lay fifth generation wireless networks, install cameras and sensors, and develop AI software that will underpin autonomous driving to automated factories and mass surveillance.

The new infrastructure initiative is expected to drive mainly local giants from Alibaba and Huawei to SenseTime Group Ltd. at the expense of U.S. companies.

But China has only contributed $57 million to WHO this year, population close to 1.5 billion.

USA has contributed $115 million to WHO this year, population 328 million

But $1.4 trillion on tech dominance is ok?

There is something really sinister about China and their approach to things but most people can't see it or don't want to acknowledge it.

Beware Xi Jinping the commie.

The China spend seems to be a direct response to MAGA

Here's something that you need to be acutely aware of, China plays the image game better than anyone at the moment. In your link, China promised many things, none of which they delivered.

They are not a global citizen. China is for China.
That being said I agree with you, the U.S isn't as benevolent as they make out either. But at least the U.S has enough voices of reason that outrage is sparked when they do step over the line. And then someone else will be voted into power.

Compare this to China - speak out against the government and it's the end for you. There is no line that they can cross, there is no "too far". If we look at history; Stalin, Hitler, and Mao - this type of absolute power warps people's minds. Insanity becomes normality.

China and the U.S are both dangerous beasts, but only one has a chain.

The CCP will no doubt receive plenty of help from US tech companies and universities
Attorneys for universities under investigation by the U.S. Department of Education are trying to block Congress from obtaining records that detail the schools’ ties with China, according to a May 19 letter exclusively obtained by The College Fix.
In March 2018, the FBI released a report indicating some foreign scholars on American campuses “seek to illicitly or illegitimately acquire U.S. academic research and information to advance their scientific, economic, and military development goals.” The report noted the Chinese government “has historically sponsored economic espionage, and China is the world’s principal infringer of intellectual property.”

In the past two weeks, several researchers have been arrested for hiding their financial ties to China. On May 13, Dr. Qing Wang, a former researcher at the Cleveland Clinic, was arrested and charged with making false claims and committing wire fraud after failing to disclose substantial financial backing by the Chinese government.

Professor Simon Ang, head of the University of Arkansas High Density Electronics Center, was later arrested for hiding connections to China when he applied for grants from NASA.

Last week, former Emory University professor Dr. Xiao-Jiang Li pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one year of probation on a felony charge and ordered to pay $35,089 in restitution for filing false tax returns in which he failed to report at least $500,000 in income from work at Chinese universities.

The researchers targeted by the FBI typically take place in a program called the Thousand Talents Plan, which the FBI believes China uses to steal intellectual property cultivated through American research.

Don't really see your chain anywhere, both are equally as dangerous in the end result while using different methods. Consider the usa has started more wars recently with very little direct opposition except for verbal condemnation, the usa even managed to rope in their allies as accomplices. The end of that chain is just being self held, which is just an obscuring illusion to provide false accountability. The reason why the chinese image game is being called out on is because the usa is deflecting world attention away from their own image game.

New zealand and the scandanavian countries might the best options at the moment for the global leadership mantle, but the lack of a spotlight on them means that whatever issues they might have are currently hidden away.

Just been chatting about the KKK in another thread.

In its current incarnation, it seems there are less than 3 000 of them. Out of 300+ million people in the USA.

Antifa thugs outnumber them.

I agree with you on New Zealand and Scandinavian countries being a great example of world leadership, but they simply don't have the global clout to challenge the big players.

The war issue is more complex. China wages war, they are subtle and don't declare war though. Tibet, the Uyghurs in the North, Taiwan, Hong Kong - all war zones.

It's estimated as many as 1 million Uyghurs have been taken by the CCP. That's more people than all of the USA's wars combined in the last 100 years.

Which Scandinavian countries? The open borders, so called 'feminist' government of Sweden is rather different to that of Norway for example. As for NZ last time I checked leftwing globalists were exactly the reason the world finds itself in this predicament with regards to China.

In any case some would say it's rather racist to look to western majority white countries for global leadership....

I was thinking Norway, Finland, and Denmark.
The current NZ PM is a bit of a pushover and doesn't have the temperament to deal with aggressive policy. But no one is perfect, she's still better than most of the other leaders out there in my view.

The current NZ PM is a bit of a pushover and doesn't have the temperament to deal with aggressive policy. But no one is perfect, she's still better than most of the other leaders out there in my view.
As an avowed globalist she's advocated the policies that have so empowered China.

NZ itself is particularly vulnerable to CCP infiltration with Labour in government.

More than 150 global China experts have added their voices to demands that the New Zealand government rotect Professor Anne-Marie Brady, a China scholar who has been the victim of a year-long harassment campaign.
Brady, an expert in Chinese politics at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, had her home and office burgled in February, and her car sabotaged last month. Brady says she became a target after the release of a paper on Chinese foreign influence in 2017 and has asked the New Zealand government for extra security for herself and her family.
After the government failed to respond, academics, human rights activists and journalists within New Zealand last week called on the prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, to step in and provide security for Brady. Now 150 China experts from around the world have signed an open letter calling for action.

Labour initially voted against her speaking to parliament

Professor Brady had asked to address MPs about foreign interference in elections as part of a justice committee inquiry, but the request was turned down yesterday when the four Labour MPs voted against it.

A government spokesperson said the committee chair, Labour MP Raymond Huo, had a rethink overnight and the committee would briefly reopen submissions to the public later this year.

Turns out Labour MP Mr Huo, the committee chair at the time, has some interesting views about China's policies according to Anne-Marie Brady's own paper.....

In 2009, at a meeting organized by the Peaceful Reunification of China Association of New Zealand to celebrate Tibetan Serf Liberation Day, Huo said that as a “person from China” (中国人) he would promote China’s Tibet policies to the New Zealand Parliament.
In 2014, when asked about the issue of Chinese political influence in New Zealand, Huo told RNZ National, “Generally the Chinese community is excited about the prospect of China having more influence in New Zealand” and added, “many Chinese community members told him a powerful China meant a backer, either psychologically or in the real sense.”
