Chinese brand Chery returns to SA

Man I saw a Chery Tiggo on the N1 into Cape Town yesterday that was completely blacked out paint and badges and everything and it looked sexy as hell I must say.

Thought it was a Lexus at first.

Which Tigger though? 4 or 7 or 8, it makes a big diff.

If you're unsure expand on size.

Omoda C9 arrives with Range Rover vibes at half the price - here’s how much it costs

Having already made successful inroads into the affordable end of the SUV segment, Chinese carmakers now have their sights on the premium end of the market.

The new Omoda C9, launched in South Africa this week, has more than a few hints of Range Rover Velar in its ultra-smooth lines, and it’s not too dissimilar in proportion.

But, as revealed at a glitzy event in Cape Town on Thursday night, it is significantly less expensive.

The new Omoda C9 is available in two versions, with the front-wheel drive Inspire model coming in at an introductory special of R760,000 and the all-wheel drive Explore listed at R860,000. Those prices apply for the month of October, and thereafter they will cost R785,000 and R885,000 respectively.

I’m not 100% but I think it was likely the 7 as it was “flatter” around the back.

Being on a bike it’s not like I can sit around and ogle all day long.

Yup it's called the black badge edition

Aaah right I'm with you now.

I do feel this one had matt paint as well though which is why it stood out to me, but that does look right otherwise.

It's the only thing I've actually considered as a mod on my Haval is to spray the badges with that rubberizing stuff and black them out, would look good with the white/black contrast already there.

Omoda C9 (2024) Price & Specs

The lavishly appointed Omoda C9 marks the first time that Chinese automotive group Chery has launched a model above the medium SUV segment in Mzansi. Here is what the newcomer comes equipped with, and how much the derivatives cost…

The Omoda C9 (a product of Chery’s O&J division) was previewed at last year’s Johannesburg Festival of Motoring. Still, it has taken about a year for the Omoda flagship model to arrive in our market.

For context, the arrestingly styled coupe-SUV is not so much a “new” model as a repackaged version of the RX – a model that one of Chery’s other sub-brands, Exeed – offers in overseas markets.

In terms of dimensions, the Omoda C9 falls into the German premium brand-dominated executive SUV segment – but, fear not, the Chinese-built newcomer is specified and finished to an appropriately lofty level. The model is 4 775 mm long, 1 920 mm wide and stands 1 671 mm tall, which – for reference – makes it 29 mm longer, 2 mm wider and 50 mm taller than the outgoing BMW X4 coupe-SUV.

How much does the Omoda C9 cost in SA?

Omoda C9 2.0T Inspire FWD R785 900
OMODA C9 2.0T Explore AWD R885 900

Note that both variants are offered with a R25k discount (October 2024) for a limited time only.

The Omoda C9 comes standard with a 7-year/100 000 km service plan, a 7-year/200 000 km vehicle warranty and an industry-leading 10-year/1 000 000 km engine warranty (for the first owner).
