Every time I see BYD, I am reminded of the fraud investigation that Arsenal found themselves in. Terrible season we had that year, thanks BYD.

Sucks that we pay such a premium in SA compared to a wealthy country like Aus.
Don't feel this car is worth anywhere near R800k.

As Sandy Munro said - the Chinese carmakers are coming and they are going to take over the market. There is a very good chance that Toyota and VW will just die.

All the arguments used against China's vehicle industry was the exact same arguments used against Japan in the 1970s.

Well, are any cars these days worth the price, think of the R300k plus hatchies. Even worse, look at the Haval's and Chery's..

At the moment, there is too much novelty and hype around it. EV's are the car equivalent of the Prime Energy drinks.

Critical mass not reached

R800k for 60kwh of batteries, which comes attached to a small motor.
nope -> normal batteries much cheaper thank you

比亚迪 (Biyadi/ BYD) is one of the lower end brands in China - working class peoples car, I'd rather have the Ora.

Well, actually I'd rather have a Nio, but no RHD ones. I really liked the test drive in that, and almost bought one.

Some test drive photos from precovid times (2017)

Yes yes yes! Can’t come soon enough.
Imagine if they also brought in electric taxis. No more noise no more emissions at least not in town. All we need is a charging network and charge points at every shopping centre

Denial is a river in Egypt. Critical mass has been obtained and long passed. The fact is that ICE cars won't even be legally sold in many jurisdictions within the next 10 years, most manufacturers have stopped investing in next-gen ICE platforms and are only focusing on EVs. Even Ford got surprised by the demand for the electric F-150 lightning.

The only reason we havent seen more EVs in SA is because of the protections for the local vehicle industry.but as soon as those hiccups are sorted you will be surprised. Change will happen a lot faster than you think.

Just ask people thinking Blackberry is the bees knees and the best phone out there
. HA!
