Xiaomi vs Oppo vs Honor — the fight for Huawei's spot in South Africa

Chinese manufacturers Honor, Oppo, and Xiaomi have started battling it out to fill a Huawei-sized hole in the flagship smartphone market in South Africa.

The three companies officially launched some of their high-end smartphone models locally — including the Honor Magic4 Pro, Oppo Reno 8 Pro, and Xiaomi 12 — in 2022.

But how long do these phones retain their value? I saw a less than a year old Samsung S22 Ultra on sale for R12,500.
That’s like half its value In less than a year.
I can’t imagine the price erosion on the other not so we’ll know Chinese brands

Look at that list of high-end models, it's embarrassing how overpriced the Honor, Huawei and Oppo is.

Xiaomi and Vivo are far more compelling price points at the higher end.

Most electronics lose their value, possibly with the exception of high end speakers. These aren't things you buy with the expectation of getting a decent return later...

Even Vivo is overpriced, their two new V series phones are priced at more than 65% higher than in Europe....these brands think we don't know how to Google

iPhones retains their value pretty well, so it's a better investment than a car....that being said Android does suffer from too many models on the market, too many choices, saturated market means prices drop significantly after 3 months unless artificially inflated like in SA

100%, very easy to prove this point.
I would personally just amend your 3 months to 6 months (for flagships).

Good point, I suppose if you want a flagship phone and change it when a new one comes out, Apple makes good sense, but if you don't require flagships and plans to use the phone for a few years, then androids probably offer more bang for your buck.

Still ticked off about this. I owned several Huawei phones and loved them all. Sadly, access to the Google ecosystem won out in the end.

Huawei P40 Lite FTW. Even without Google it kicks ass.
