Only if I know where the other chairs are, no way I’m standing like an idiot. I was on time. :)

But people are..

People had a mind shift. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. As I have said previously on this board, I mind my own business, but I won't stand by idly if someone, particularly, women, is being attacked or threatened, though neither would I invite myself into being mobbed for that you need to buy time and trust the system.

The acts of chivalry can easily result in you being a labelled a womaniser, sex fiend or condescending arsehole. Intention doesn't matter, it is all about personal experiences.

Ja, but certain attitudes toward race and gay people have changed so clearly updating our behavior is a thing we all do. Just because a behavior has from your perspective a positive air about it, doesn't mean the behavior should escape your scrutiny.

'Because I was raised that way' is usually a good reason to pause and think about it.

Does feel that way sometimes. But I think I lean more toward which response sits better with me if a girl got upset at either situation:

1.) Stand up and she's angry and asks why I'm standing: "It's just how I was raised."
2.) Stay sitting and she's angry and she asks why I'm sitting: "You seemed like a healthy normal human just like everyone else in the room."

I feel more comfortable with response #2.

But obviously these situations hardly ever arise and the majority of people aren't assholes who get upset over **** like this. Just interesting the things we were raised with and the degree to which we override them as the world changes.

If my seat isn’t booked, I prefer to stand, conditionally I leave a seat open for the next person. A thing I have seen occur, occasionally, is someone else noticing that a woman or elder person is without a chair, but instead of making a seat available or fetching one, the person insist on the others to do so.

It depends how long I struggled to get a seat but generally would get up

Back on topic, if someone is attending a talk/conference, etc, surely (in 2021 especially) seating would have been reserved? Is this woman trying to come in uninvited? Or is it just a free-for-all?

The point I was tying to make is that peoples underlying character is the same, a douche is a douche - just because the world is changing does not mean people are fundamentally changing - their behavior might be modified yes

PS: I am not implying that people cannot change for the better
