Hoedspruit Airport about two weeks ago, crowded and no seats available. Elderly lady (70) with her family I got up and offered her my seat.

I felt awkward and so did she and eventually she said thanks and took my seat.

I truly believe in karma and hopefully my mother in her late 70 will also be offered a similar some sort of kindness in the future.

You're sitting in a crowded room attending a talk. Lady (you don't know) walks in and there's no chair. Do you get up and offer her your chair, or do you ignore the impulse because this is some old timey nonsense?

I get up - do it often, and the looks you get!

Bunch of heathens didn't any of you savages learn any manners???
I suppose if most of you who would not offer your seat to a woman don't know where your fathers are.

Back on topic, if someone is attending a talk/conference, etc, surely (in 2021 especially) seating would have been reserved? Is this woman trying to come in uninvited? Or is it just a free-for-all?
Well, keeping in mind the 50% restriction on indoor events, there should always be a seat free...

Manners? Who said anything about manners? I'd give up my seat to an elderly person regardless of gender any time of the day.

But if you wouldn't give up your seat to a healthy young male exactly like you would for a healthy young female, then you're just sexist!

Equality is a bitch that way..

Offer the chair. If she accepts find another chair or a place to stand.

If she decline politely, you showed your upbringing, and she hers.
If she makes a scene, apologise, keep the chair and ignore her, knowing a) you did the right thing, and b) she is a forgettable brat - even (especially!) if she is soft on the eye!

Savages and heathens are from the past and that seems where you are stuck ... in the past. Get into the present. Women don't want to be treated differently unless it suits them. So why should I give up me seat to a healthy young woman. I'll do to for elderly or pregnant woman (maybe). But who's to say she is pregnant ... she might just be fat and these days you cannot just assume a woman is pregnant if she is fat. Don't even dare ask them or it will be the end of the world for you. And what the hell does my father have to do with it? He is from a different generation. Women wanted equal rights so now they have it.
