Choosing a medical aid is a nightmare?

Hey peeps,

How do you guys select a new medical aid? I was with Topmed and they got bought out by Fedhealth. I am hating being with Fedhealth, but cannot find another option - easily - that would suit just myself and my son (16).
I also never wanted their MediVault kak, but they decided to start charging me for that this year, so I have to try undo it now - and so I dislike them even more. They are a constant admin headache.
My medical aid costs are now also more then my monthly AirBnb costs which just irks me.

I need something more like a hospital plan, that will also cover dread disease and such stuff. Any suggestions? Just me (49) and my son (16).
I have hunted around some of the "top" medical aids, but these guys have become like cellphone companies. They list so many damned options, it just gets confusing.

best pick is the cheapest, that still covers everything,
so hospital plan with savings is a good choice,

I'm assuming your healthy, nothing chronic ect...

On Discovery for 16 years now as my previous company was on it, as well as my new company.
We have Coastal Saver...Discovery pays for any hospital admissions etc as long as we are admitted on the coast. All other features are relevant no matter where we are in the country.
Not sure what your budget is, but I think Coastal Saver is 1 or 2 up the rung from the bottom. We have had this for 16 years now without change and it has worked well.

Fedhealth are hitting me R10,400 PM for 2 adults, and a child. I don't make use of their savings kak, but they decided to start charging me R2k PM for it this year anyway. So without this, it would be R8,400 which is just too much for something I need as an insurance vs daily use.

So budget is anything below this :)

EDIT: My ex is still on the medical aid, so in fairness - this is for 2 x adults and 1 child. Going forward it will be me and my son.

Holy moly!!! I pay R7700 for 2 adults and 2 kids under 12, and get R20k medical savings per year. Coastal Saver works very well for us. I have never had an issue with hospitalisation or Discovery paying for it, and that includes a concussion run for a child and 2 children being born in a private hospital.

Oh, we also have Vitality, although right now I don't know why. We aren't going to movies, not going to restaurants, not going to gym and not flying or booking accomodation. Might actually cancel it and take it up again later.

I'm on a Beat option from Bestmed, me and a 16 year old kid, R2200/month.

I prefer to get some advice here on MyBB. None of you have anything to gain, so I take it as more genuine. As soon as someone is making money off the advice they give me, I take a step back.
Hi there.

Confession - I am involved in the design of the Hippo advisory services. Enterprise Architect.
We have been working very hard in removing all the double speak and obfuscation that is found in medical aid offerings to allow people to compare medical aids. I will with full confidence advise you to at least try it for yourself. And we don't make money of you, but from the medical aids.

Hope you will feel more confident using it.
