South Africa cinema prices vs the world

Although South African consumers may feel that cinema ticket prices are expensive, local prices are at the lower end of the spectrum when considering other countries' purchasing power.

To determine whether high cinema prices are a global phenomenon or unique to South Africa, MyBroadband compared the price of a movie ticket to 11 other countries, using the World Bank's purchasing power parity (PPP) index.

Why are we beeing bombarded with all these cinema articles on Mybroadband lately?

Family of 4 , tickets R556 , popcorn, and cooldrinks and parking easy R1000 bucks.

And then you have to compare our cinemas to theirs. Ours is rubbish, dirty, smelly and sticky.

Their is nicer and cleaner and have much better food options even.

Youre comparing our avg cinema

with theirs

Then you have to add on a food menu like Burger King to that. Yip you can eat inside the cinema. Nachos is a firm favourite.

I'll stick to my 20 bucks with a cappucino thrown in on a comfy couch option here. Comparable, lol

Will never ever pay them this exorbitant prices!

UK minimum wage £11.44 * 8hrs * 5days *4weeks = 1824
(£10 ticket / £1824) * 100 = 0.54% of their gross salary for a movie ticket.

ZA minimum wage R27.59 * 8hrs * 5days *4weeks = 4412
(R98.5 ticket / R4412) * 100 = 2.2% of their gross salary for a movie ticket.

So when it's movies we compare to all the first world countries.... but when it's salaries for Healthcare workers we compare to our African counterparts?? Where are the prices of movie tickets in our fellow African countries for comparison???
